I'm due to change my brake pads/shoes soon.

Which brand do people recommend? I've used Bendix in the past and am reasonably happy with them but am willing to change if there are better out there.

bendix has the best reputation. why muck around with trial and error on breaks. go with what you know. BENDIX

i like using TRW Lucas pads.

Can be dusty and not very long lived but their performance is usually ace.

haven't tried them on all vehicles though so who knows.

x2 on the Lucas TRW, massive improvement in braking when I fitted these.

I only ever used pads like bendix before. These TRW are brilliant, more dust than others, but very good braking...

when i got new disks and pads a while ago i got these flash kevlar backed high performance brake pads which when first fitted they seemed ok , but recently i realised that instead of useing my big toe on the brake pedal to pull up i now was useing my front part of the foot and pushing quite hard , i thought i would try to lock up the wheels as a test and i found they wouldnt lock up , so i went and bought new seal kits for the calipers , new master cyl , bled the crap out of lines and although it felt better , it still wouldnt lock up and took great force to pull up quickly , i did notice when doing the caliper kits that the pads had hardly worn at all , infact probly less than 1 mm in 10 odd months ( compared to the new pads fitted ) i figured one last go at getting them to work well and i decided to get a set of pads that i knew worked before , i got a set of cheapy ferodo pads from super junk and not the ones that say 4wd on them as they are a harder compound , the cheapies are a softer compound and although they wear faster they pull up the car faster still , when i fitted them just last sunday i went for a quick trip around the block to bed them in and strait away they were pulling up the car easier and they werent even bedded in yet and they probly still arnt as ive only done 20 odd kays

i rather replace pads every 6 months and stop on a dime than have poor brakeing and replace the rotors more than needed

For the GQ or GU, I've always had great results with OEM pads.. they shit on the bendix rubbish I had in the Q.

My eyes hurt. Please try a bit of proper punctuation and paragraphing. May contain good information but PAINFUL to read.

I'd say the performance pads needed to heat up more before they worked properly.

the only way i could heat them up was with one foot on the go pedal and the other on the brake , around town they got a little better but a stint on the hwy ment they cooled down , too bad if you need to pull up in a hurry

sorry but i want brakes that work when i want them to , not after they decide they are warm enough to work

Yeah you had the wrong ones. They were more for your boy racer. ;)

When you do choose brake pads just get ones that suit. I have EBC green pads:

Have a look at the graph at the bottom for the Effective Operating Range. That should give you some idea.

I don't know if the brand makes that much difference (as long as they are a recognised brand).
