Hiya fellas,
I'm going to start building a roof console for a DIN unit and some storage.
I'd like to also include the drop down storage unit made by Outback 4WD Interiors if possible but am wondering where I can buy them from (I'm not sure if Outback would sell me one without the rest of the console???)
I was wondering what thickness ply should be used and any general tips you guys have for building one.

Building a roof console

When I made one for my lux, I used small guage steel box section to follow the roof line as it was easy to bend 2 pieces in a vice and quickly hold up to the roof lining.
When I had that right, worked out how wide I wanted it and welded in some pieces of plate with the pieces at the front and back drilled first to line up with the mounting holes for the rear view mirror and the interior light.
I just covered this setup with carpet as it only had my uhf hanging from it, but you could just as easily screw some ply or mdf to the steel frame.
