I have a 99nl Pajero with a 3.5l sohc engine.
It is just about to hit 170,000 km's. We bought it roughly 2 years ago second hand. It had 80,000 in the clock. We log a lot of K's as we live in the country. I worried about the amount of K's we clock up.
I use Mobil 1 Synthetic and change it every 15,000 as per the book. What else can I do to keep the engine in good condition. What should the engine life be ( I know it's a bit like "How long is a piece of string?")?
I love the Pajero but have been having thoughts about changing to a Hilux Diesel

Hello,
I had the 3.5lDOHC motor in my NK . It had 40k on it when we got it & I only just traded it in last week (for 99 GLS) , it had 290000k on it then.
In all honesty it was still going strong when I got rid of it & it was only because the body was getting knocked around that I did.
It never really casued me any trouble in all that time (except a backfire on lpg cost me a new air flow meter). I took all the gas off for the last 6 months.
My guess is that you could get at least 300k & perhaps more from these motors. I gave away my EA Ford to my son & it had 450k on it. Modern motors seem to be built to last.
cheers
