Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey guys, I'm lookin at buying a gu patrol ute with the 4.2turbos diesel. I have a mate that has a 2000 model and doesn't get great fuel economy. another has 07 interooled model and gets much better economy. I am limited to a budget somewhat and due to that I'd want to get one pre intercooled, but am a bit apprehensive due to the fuel economy amongst other things. I spoke to a nissan mechanic of many years and was advised only to go for the intercooled model. Can you guys throw some mileage figures at me so i can get a good idea of the differences. cheers

Don't have one but a mate does, depending on how loaded up it is he gets between 11-14l/100k, thats a stock 03 intercooled running standard sized tyres.
Whichever model you choose i'd make sure it had the 11mm plunger injector pump, it would make a power up a lot easier.

buy the cheaper one and get it intercooled and tuned with guages
you'd still be alot cheaper then the intercooled version?
