turbo manifold adaptor fabrication

Ok so i have my turbo, td05hr 16g twin scroll, it is to go onto my 1hz cruiser.

I need to make an adaptor to go from the standard exhaust manifold to the turbo inlet. the turbo inlet comprises of two non circular ports with a small gap between them, I am thinking that i could use a y pipe from an exhaust shop welded between the two different flanges (after being bashed into shape with FBH) then gusset the flanges for strength.

anyone see any problems with this or does it sound ok?

You can acctually do it just with a 10mm sandwich plate. But IMO get a complete custom steam pipe manifold, it will be the best money you ever spent. The stock manifold are very restrictive and
the expansion joint in them is prone to leaking

As much as I would love to buy a complete custom manifold, I can't. I will be lucky to afford the bits to do it super tightass cheap (turbo was $150).. A 10mm plate wouldn't do it as the inlet to the turbo is a bit funky with 2 holes..
maybe down the track I will get a proper manifold..

there is a brand 'Sonic' that do adaptors for various turbos to manifolds etc.

I often use the T25 to T3 for bolting Garretts into Patrols.

Failing that, don't suppose you know anyone with a multi axis CNC machine, you could get one made easy enough.

Also with the twin scroll turbos, it's not absolutely necessary to separate the inlets as part of the manifold. you can just run from your outlet on the manifold to both inlets on the turbo as one hole, hope that makes sense. Picture could tell a thousand words here.

so ur saying for eg if i got a flange for the two holes and welded a piece of 3 inch pipe directly over the top of the 2 holes that would work fine?

Okay, I haven't had a lot to do with mitsubishi turbos. Don't suppose you could put a picture up of the two flanges? I keep thinking "T3 Twin scroll flange" in my head but that's a Garrett twin scroll, rectangular outside, bolt hole in each corner and two rounded rectangle inlet holes.
The only twin scroll TD05 I've seen had two round holes on a large 6bolt flange. remotely 'S' shaped.

To be honest, if you can't find a sandwich plate adaptor, I'd buy a weld on flange that matches the turbo, take the factory manifold (why are you using that by the way, budget?), I'd knock the factory flange off, throw it in the bin, weld the new flange on, done. Won't take up as much room as a piece of three inch pipe either.

If so, as anzac said its fine to just use one big hole to route zorst into turbo as marked with red line.

Wow never seen a turbo in that config before, used to much larger ones. Im not gonna comment like i know what im talkin about as i dont know the turbo, but i would imagine you could still cut out a flange that flows into both holes at once similar to my pic.

I'm out.

I've seen that configuration before but only in pictures.

I'd suggest trying mitsubishi. I'm pretty sure that's the same as a late model EVO X. Maybe contact companies that do aftermarket manifolds for Evo 9 or higher to see if they can do one.

Trace it and get a matching flange cut from plate with a good plasma or laser, talk to your local steel shop for that. If you can get a flange, you can just cut you toyota flange off, and attach the funky one.

failing that, try and get another exhaust housing but good luck.

Sorry mate, can't help more than that, none of my suppliers do anything.

I can get a flange for the turbo off ebay for like 20 bucks, I guess I'll take it to a bloke i know who does good welds and get him to knock something up.. the whole setup has to be done as cheaply as possible :(

sweet, do that then. I didn't even think to look on the great black hole called eBay for something like that. That's what I get for living of garretts I guess.

You mean like this one on Hebbles, T3 to T25/T28 only 14mm thick and fully flowed and 3D CNC'd one single plate. You can also flip it to T25/T28-T3
