Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Im in the process of building a camp kitchen to mount onto the trailer for camping trips. something very similar to the Driftahttp://www.drifta.com.au/setDPOS.php but with a modified 2 burner BBQ mounted in it.

It's being built out of 12mm & 9mm ply and I'm just trying to work out the best product to finish it in?? Was thinking some sort marine varnish, but not sure if it will be the best product.

Any thoughts??

A coat or 2 of marine varnish will do nicely.
You could even do it with a fine brush, but get yourself a good one, not a cheapie $2 special.

I am considering how to approach the same thing.

i just used some 12mm ply, and i have a mate whos a shopfitter, and he laminated the tops for me in a marble laminate that he had at fork, all for the price of free :)

If it's not too late, I would consider using marine ply.

Either way, seal it meticulously. If moisture can get into the wood, it will.

So I reckon marine varnish will be the finishing coat, actually quite a few coats I reckon!! But I've decided on laminating all top working surfaces for more protection and durability. Never had a crack at it as yet but coming from a carpentry background it shouldn't be too much of a drama.

The 2 burner BBQ plate has been cut down to half size, keeping the drain hole in the middle with fat cup holder below. The half that has been removed now has 2 single burners installed for stove top cooking. Took a bit to get the gas/air mixture right as they came off one of the butane portable carry case types, but all good now. Just got to get some 5mm stainless bar today and fab up a rack for pots n pans to sit on.

Pics will come, all in good time Not enough time to complete it before Tuff Truck next weekend and don't want to rush it just for the sake of it.

With my camper the old man and I bult a kitchen on the talgate out of 18mm ( Over kill...But it was in the shed ) marine ply, to finsh it we used Sanding sealer the varnished it the sanding sealer dosen't let the varnish soak in to the timber. The old man has built three kitchens this way mine is the only one we have left now (sold the other trailers) and it is still doing its job 4 years after it was built, it gets used about 4 maybe 5 times a year so it gets a work out....If you want i might be able to get some photos.
