even more diff ratio questions.....please help

guys please help... i have a 91 swb mav that has been given the lifting treatmeant.. 4 inch coils, 25 mm coil spacers, tough dog ralphs (big bore), radius arm spacers, 3rds adjustable panhards, 33x12.5/15 mtr's...
anyway my dramas are in the drivability of the car.. its the TB42 motor on straight lpg and auto...reading from here i checked the compliance codes and learnt that it has the 3.9 diffs.. with the 33's the car is what would be described as not responsive..the overdrive is next to useless and it the drivabilty has changed for the worse.
what would be the recommended diff ratio u guys would recommend on this setup(4.2 lpg + auto + 33 inch tyres)? im guessing the 4.3's..i have access to complete diffs from a 3.0l gq. am i right that these are the 4.3 ratio? do they have the lsd if they are 4.3? should i get the tools out and start the conversion?
any help would be extremely appreciated..plus i know how u guys love to help ur fellow fourbyers.. cheers

thanks for that.. has anybody had any experience with the 4.3's with the auto? if i wanted to one day run 35's will the 4.3 still be ok? and finally. how do all u guys get away running those 35's and up on the gq's? i have about 5 inchs of lift and still get the 33's rubbing on the back guards. cheers

Cant comment on the 4.3s with auto., if you wanted to run 35's you'd prolly get away with it = losing a bit of power.
How the guys get away with running 35's and up on GQ's - easy. Ratios available are 3.9, 4.11, 4.3, 4.6, 4.88 and 5.13(iceland)
Alternatively use crawler gears - rockhoppers or gearmasters.
5 inchs of lift and 33's rubbing - get some toyota offset rims and you'll be fine - sticks out a bit more
- or use some wheel spacers (thou they're illegal on road)

Hi Viper
I run 35" MTR's with a 4" susp. lift and 2" body lift. It used to scrape at the rear of the rear guards because of the cheap (100x4mm thick rubber strip screwed to guards with thin steel strapping from Bunnings) flares that I made. Ripped up a few tread blocks on a trip to LCMP I'll tell ya!!
I've got cruiser offset rims, you should be able to get away with 33's without scraping. I solved my problem by cutting off the bottom of the rear guards.
Good Luck

I run 35s with 4.3 diffs. (lwb Mav 4.2 T diesel) 4" lift 2" body, 8/15 rims.
I moved front axle forward 12mm and had rear guards widened at rear 20mm by a panel shop.

thanks heaps guys...im guessing its time to commence surgery on the rear guards... do you guys know if its possible to get the lip back on the guard after its been cut? if not how do you get flares back on there?
also.. whats the general concensus on the gq auto box for four wheelin? the few trips i been on so far have converted me to an auto lover, but would the auto box be any less bulletproof than the manual? and finally, is the ideas behind the 4.3 diff ratios behind my auto box and 33's the way to go?

I would go straight to 4.6's, especially if u want to run 35s later. U have overdrive anyway so it doesnt matter if it revs a little harder on the road whilst you still have the 33's..

The manual is stronger than the auto but this page tells you how to make the auto box bullet proof

Im using the standard patrol auto behind a VN V8 so far its been good some people tell me it won't handle the power and some people say it will i do plan to make it stronger though

Yes mine had new lipp bent in when cut. :Looks standard and flares arr (ARB rubber ones with wire tracer.) OE ones will fit too if I had them
I think 4.3 are the go with 35s on an auto.
Standard 3.9 31
then 4.1 with 33s
and 4.3s with 35s
This is for the auto.
Manual different as no torque mult from convertor.
