replacing zd30 injector pump

My father has an 02 d22 navara with the zd30 motor in it, he recently got a bad tank of fuel which had a heap of water/mud in it and it has wrecked the injector pump (has been diagnosed) anyway instead of getting a new or reco pump we reckon it can be replaced with one of another motor a lot cheaper than he has been quoted, nissan quoted about 6.5 grand to replace.

My question is can i get a pump of another pre common rail zd30 motor (navara, patrol) and use that? I have been told a replacement needs to match the number on his injector pump, is this true?

Any help would be much appreciated.

only problem with a second hand one is knowing how good it is and whether it will last, there was another post on here of some one putting one in off another motor and it was stuffed within a month or soo.

its a bit of a shitty situation and dont reall know if there is a cheap option either way

It has to be the same pump number, so only look for Navara pumps. Allow 8-12 hrs to remove and refit. If the 2nd hand unit is no good, you have another 8-12 hrs of labour to fix it. Find a work shop manual and read the procedure twice if you want to do it yourself.
