Bent diff, can I bent it back? Pics

My diff has bent on one end between the weld and where the swivel housing goes on, can I simply just heat it up and bend it back some how? The CV rubs the wall of the housing.
Is it cast iron or cast steel?
If it was cast iron it wouldn't it just brake?
Cheers.

They can be bent back, had mine done about three years ago and have had no problems since

it could be bent back but if you heat it up which you'll most likely have to do make sure you reinforce it by welding a gusset on to it as the heating will weaken it.

like most people say they can be bent back and they are very common to bend when driving patrols hard in the bush.
Halls had a special on $250 for housing and cvs no centre or hubs though..
check if its still on...
Also i would suggest laminating your housing now anyway..

The diff was out of a wrecked patrol. When it crashed the tie rod must have pulled on the swivel housing so hard it bent the diff. You can hear the CV rumbing on the housing when driving. Wish I had known this before I put it in but couldn't see it untill it was pulled apart.

by its aford not a nissan
that looks bent backwards , as in the wheel came to a sudden stop when it / the car ran into something
getting it strait and keeping the inner axel seal from not leaking would be a challenge i recon

How to make/laminate these point as strongest way ??
Bended with 4 years 2 axles now (2nd was laminated up and dawn with 10mm plates vertically) - it's the weakest point on axle I think

you can get them straightened and yes you can bend them as well. this is the bus on its way up when the diff WAS straight. Me being an idiot, this diff was braced top, bottom and ends. lesson learnt, sort of.

I've had 2 housings straightened by WA diff centre, and they cold bend them in a massive press, and can straighten any part of the housing,ie, knuckles and tubes.
They've also rejected one coz it was too bent.

I know some one that bent a Front GQ diff, they straightended(sp)
Chained it to a Railway Track, and used a Bottle Jack
Still in the Truck to this day

A lot of the truck places that do bearings, brakes will be able to do it but check costs as a second hand GQ front diff is not expensivse. Also for around a grand you should be able to pick up a low km complete front GU diff which has stronger cv,s and a straight bolt up. just make sure you take note of ratios as you may need to use your GQ diff center.

Thing is this is a GU diff I only just put in. Looks like i'll have to pull it out and find a diff shop that can bend it back.
I like the bottle jack idea. I'll have to ask my dad if he's still got his massive old as hydro jack that was rated to something like 50 tons.
Cheers for the help guys.
bent...

Who did you get it off?? Any chance of a refund or not....
Also looks like it is squashed, which would be a sh*!t to fix...

Welding gussets doesnt make it as strong as required, I have found on my trucks, cutting the swivel balls off, reaming the tubes and using thick walled tube up the axle tubes gusseted inside the pumkin with laser cut and folded parts, along with some small external gussetting makes them as strong as can be.
The control arm brackets also need gussetting, as they are the next weakest point, and will bend, when the housing doesnt.

I got them out of a wrecked GU my Dad brought. Couldn't notice it was bent even when they were out. I reckon its only out of wack by 5mm. Tried heating it with the oxy and bending it back with a block and tackle but couldn't get it hot enough to make it move.
The control brackets were bent up but we straightened them with a sledge hammer.

bentthe crap out of mine about 10 years ago, find a truck allignment joint, they'll cold bend it back for ya, then depending on how shagged it is, use offset shimms to get it back to spec.
