am going to drop diff oils in my feb/97 ln106r not sure what oil to use?
Im not sure if the rear is lsd as there is no stamp or sticker on the diff housing. is there another way of finding this out?
Also my front hub seals are leaking, wondering if i keep front diff oil filled
can i still go 4wheeling with them leaking or am i at risk of seizing the hubs?
probably dumb questions but i'm new to 4x4in and could really use some help
cheers josh.

I just use the diff oil suited to lsd and heavy duty use, I think its a penrite oil. Mine doesnt have a lsd, but the oil is pretty good.
If you go to a place like bursons or repco, tell the guy what you want the oil for, tell him that its gets used off road, and he should be able to point you in the right direction.
For your leaking hubs, just check the front diff is topped up with oil before you leave to go wheeling and you should be ok, but it will depend on how quickly its leaking, but should be ok.
Your hubs are leaking because the axle seals are stuffed, get a front axle rebuild kit and a wheel bearing kit, some good grease in a tub, a heap of rags and rebuild them yourself.
From memory the parts cost me around the $180 mark from my local bearing supplier. But ring around for the best price.
I posted in the hilux bible with alot of helpful info on this very topic, just about all the info is in that, go check that out before you start.
Good luck.

Fair chance that your rear diff will be LSD but most likely useless anyway like most Hilux LSD's. I have a 96 model and use Castrol's 90 weight LSD oil front and rear - LSX 90 I think it's called.

east coast 4wd do the swivel hub rebuild kits for both sides for $79.
Done mine 5 months ago and havnt had a leak since and it gets wheeled pretty hard and has 35s on it constantly.
If you go through water the diff oil will be milky when its dumped as water would have gotten into the seals.
4wd doesnt get used all the time so you can wheel as much as you want just check the diff oil before you go and should be fine.
I use castrol diff oils, just change the diff oil every 25-30,000km and you should be fine.
