A mate of mine is considering buying a GQ running LPG, and wants to know is LPG a problem with the GQ. We know someone who has cracked a head twice.
I've got a diesel so I can't help him.

LPG is fine, you only hear of more LPG GQ's cracking heads because the majority of petrol GQ's are runing LPG. law of averages and shit. usually because people fill the radiator, put the cap on, and drive off without letting the engine cycle the air out. the GQ i am driving around at the moment has been running LPG since 1991, the best part of 340,000km and is fine. costs less to drive on a long trip than our little ford laser.

lpg rocks..espescially in a gq. i have a 91 mav swb on straight lpg running a lpg throttle body rather than the carby.. if u want better cheaper performance than petrol this is the way to go. the petrol gq motor is built by nissan to take lpg...have a close look at a nissan forklift next time u cross paths with one... reliabitily of the head comes from the state of tune.. get it done by the pro's on a 4 gas analyser every 6 months so the mixtures and stuff are good and u wont blow nothing...cheers

I also have a SWB Maverick 1990 that has been running dual fuel from day one and the old bat I bought it off drove it - god only knows how many kms on it with little or no servicing. Make sure your radiator is good and the viscus fan hub still works and change you oil as regular as a diesel. I still have golden oil (even after 5,000kms)with a motor that has done over 300,000 and unlike a toyota it doesn't blow smoke either.
Go jew juice its 35cents rather than $1.00 per litre!!
Whats that it doesn't stall on hill climbs....

How many letres of LPG can you fit on a SWB with GAS only
(not including a tank in the cab).
Can you put two gas tanks under the car?

Well mount under mine (SWB) is a 120 litre Gas tank (where the original used to be) which turns into 106 usable litres... I dunno about a second gas tank but you would have to do a body lift for sure - I have a 45 litre petrol tank under the drivers side so when she blows I don't miss out

Have had my GQ on gas for 4 years. no probs
Wish I bought a Impco, Gasresearch is mechanical operation and thus wears out when on corrugations ie. needs retuning.
Fit a hiflow water pump to eliminate hot spots forming in the head, this should stop heads cracking/blowing gaskets. All cars not just the GQ.
Always said next car will be a Deisel, but at over $1/litre they can jamm it
