G'day guys.
My wife has a little black TJ wrangler... bog stock... I want to make it into a capable offroader.. can anyone point me in the right direction as to who In Melbourne is a good place to start for the right stuff. ie lift, suspension, bar work etc etc etc ... I have found a bucket load of info on the net. But as I have limited knowledge of jeeps (other than they make exellent rock hoppers) want to make it wild...

Save yourself money by asking these questions at one of the mentioned Jeep experts in Melbourne..
Make a build plan and stick to it, TJ's are easy to mod. But they will become expensive if you change your mind and have to re-do anything.
IMHO for a tough Daily Driver/weekend warrior. (If based in Vic)
A good build would be something like this....
Triangulated long arm upgrade (off the shelf or custom made)
3.5 inch lift (max)
33x15" tyres
Disc brake conversion on rear (can get GOJEEPS on ebay @ $900)
Cro mo front axles, truss for D30, greasable axle seals for D30
Heavy duty tie rod
Adjustable heavy duty panhard/trac bar
4.88 ratios (if it's a 5 speed)
SYE and heavy duty rear shaft
Sway bar discos or Currie AntiRock
Belly up skid plate (most gain around 2" clearance)
A pair of lockers (TJ's don't like auto lockers in rear)
High clearance bars front and rear
Stetch the wheel base to around 97"
Fuel tank bash plate
Steering Box bash plate
Engine sump bash plate
That'll get rid of at least 15K..
I would advise not going over 3.5" lift or 33" tyres..
A TJ on 33's has the same clearance as a Pootrol on 35's..
With a short wheel base anything over 3.5" lift, on road handling will be crap. And they don't need any more, you can cut guards, do highline bonnet etc.. to gain clearance for bigger rubber.
Get onto AUSJEEPOFFROAD. and search................
