hi all.

i am having my alternator checked on monday, but i am in a little bit of a pickle. me, been the curious person that i am, decided to pull it apart just to have a look and give it a bit of a clean. but i am upto removing the stator i have gotten the fan, pully, front case off, and the stator is nearly out, but from what i can see, there is 3 wires that are joined to something at the back of the alt. so, no probs i thought, i'll just unscrew it, but now that i have, the screws are rattling arount in it and the stator, still wont come out. i tried to remove the bit that spins around first, but i dont know how, i tried to ease it, and persuede it with a bfh, but it still isnt budging. can anybody help me? its a OEX HA007 alternator, and the vac pump is on the bach, but i also have that removed.

cheers

The 3 wires will be soldered to the regulator. The reg should be screwed to the casing at the back which it sounds like you've undone. Sounds like the rotor is still in, could be the brushes catching on the rotor shaft bearing.
You also have to unscrew the pole terminal on the back of the alternator where the charge wire from the battery connects to.
Maybe best to leave it if you're getting it checked. The auto sparky can do all the necessary checks without dismantling it anyway.
