my mate has an 02 dual cab lux with the 5l 3.0d efi and he asked me if we could turbo it for him and i searched around and most of the people i talked to said you cant turbo it cause its efi and you cant wind the fuel pump up cause it will run lean when on boost.
any other ways to wind the injector pump up on the efi or do we have to buy a earlier model injector pump and injectors and fit them so we can turbo it (thats what everyone else said i had to do).
help wsould be much appreciated.
cheers..smiley..

i was looking into it for my lux and people say you can run a dp chip and get it tuned or get the pump modded to suit the turbo

mate i have the 2004 5Le motor...
Basically i have a kit that was on my 2.8 and the only difference is a small piece of pipe, and a after market computer...
Turbo Glide do a kit which have their own 'piggy back' type computer Which is the cheaper option compared to the DP chip or diesel power chip (turbo tech perth WA version).
You have to also block off the EGR port to fit your turbo manifold as well...
* basically underneath your EFI plastic box (have no idea what that is for
) there is a pipe from the exhaust manifold that feeds a small amount of exhaust gas back through your intake...* This pipe needs to be removed / blocked / capped as you dont run this with the turbo....
I have a diesel power chip from turbo tech in perth WA, it came with really easy instructions and allowed me to adjust the fuel (power) as i need/ want it.
From setting 1-4 there is a difference of 15 RWKW and between 9 PSI and 14 PSI..
I did it all myself and is very easy but the kit was installed on my 2.8 engine and i only transferred it across.. Need to get it Dyno'd to set it up properly at the end..
Difference is the motor went from 42 RWKW to 85 RWKW...
Also need a new exhaust obviously....

no you dont want to change to a earlier fuel pump any way...
One of the main reasons i put this engine in my lux was because it has a electronic fuel pump (computer controlled) which means you can controll the fuel properly...
the problem i had with my 2.8 (mechanical fuel pump) is yeh you can wind the fuel up on the pump but this then means that down low you are over fueling and up high (revs) you are leaning off (under fueling)....
the after market computer controlls this... (unless you have a boost compinsator--- was quoted an odd $5000 to set it up on my 2.8 by a sydney diesel company
and thought...far...k that)
I went with the WA power chip because they were local and they could guarantee me it would work properly...
And was told injectors are fine--- not like it is big power

2.8 pumps will work, just need to fit boost comp (plenty of old surfs to get one off). $5k to set up boost comp.....LOL. drop a few zero's off that! you can get a choice of pins to tune them with tho surf one has some adjustment to it.
tho aftermarket chip is much easier, especially if its adjustable.

I wasn't aware of that, only goin by what the diesel place told me... But i needed to pull my engine out any way.. the engine was tired and needed a new head... So i went with the 3.0L.
But all i need to do now is grab the power module from underneath my glove box and turn it up down... between power and economy..
