What diff gears do i have?

I have searched google, and cant seem to find a definate answer,
Its a 1990 4.2 carbi, Auto. What should stock diff gearing be?

have a look at the plate on the firewall in front of the driver so to speak. in the bottom rhs will be a number diff/trans/axle code eg 41**, 39**,43** etc. it will be under the eng size/ capacity on plate from memory. the first 2 digits are the ratio so to speak. good luck. if you are changing a centre just make sure it is stamped the same as the one that has been replaced before you fit or kabooooom.

3.9 or 4.1 depending on model and trans
mines a 1990 ford maverick base model manual and its 3.9:1

count how many times the tailshaft turns to one revolution of the tyres. gives you the ratio

Can you tell the difference between 3.9 and 4.1 like this?
Anyway, i checked under the bonnet and have HG39, so 3.9...

No it doesn't...... unless you have a locker and it's engaged when you do the test...

As long as the centre/s haven't been changed between manufacture and now.....
