to go v8 u will need a bellhousing, if you go RB you can fit a L28 input shaft and bell housing. RB will bolt to this box will be on a lean and small mods on top housing bolts. I have no idea on cost, RB may be the cheapest option if using all used parts at the right price. But injected RB then has to be wired. I think a few people on here have done it.
SD rebuild. Good motor BUT if the injectors and pump need o'haul it will be very expensive. (Pump and injectors may cost more than Eng O'haul itself)
I am rebuillding my SD now after a broken crank, but i have recently had the fuel side o'hauled. $900 for SD33T eng kit, $350 for block machine work, (liners bored and honed, little end bushes fitted and honded, cam brgs fitted, block decked and liner heights set. $500 for crank grind and linish, and complete rotating assembly balanced.

johno,
contact the main roads or transport mob
and see wats required for doin a v8 conversion
as in engineer costs
if its a carb v8 u mite need to run on straight LPG
again u need to check that out
do a google search for the conversion kits,
dellow,castlemaine rod shop ect ect
then the costs for the exhaust ect
maybe just put a good 2nd hand sd33 turbo in it
if u can find a good one, that could be the cheapest option

If you go the RB route, check out my wiring post in Patrol4x4 under DIY. Both V8 and RB have merit but I reckon the RB would be happening sooner and I couldnt see it costing more than 2k if ya did the work yourself. The non turbo RBs are perfectly capable of handling a fair whack of boost with just some moderate boltons.
