Hi all, my current situation is i had a 1989 2.8 dual cab 4x4 solid axle that i tipped over about 6 months ago being a dick on flat ground :( I then bought an 84 model live axle 4 runner to be my daily and still enable me to go camping. My initial plans were part out the hilux, but i came across a 95 sr5 independant front dual cab rolling car with front end damage which i picked up reasonably cheap. straight away i got stuck into pulling them both to pieces with the intention of keeping my old chassis and driveline.. Currently i've run out of motivation and am having trouble trying to work out the easiest way to swap the cabs as my parents shed isn't really tall enough to hang a cab off a block and tackle in. Im a 3rd year apprentice mechanic so i can do everything, so long as i can afford it lol
So what i want to know is if anyone has any points in swapping cabs over and re attaching the complete inner guard/radiater support to the new cab? as im no panel beater.
Potentially i'd love to keep the dual cab, but its not going to be an easy job.. Im really having trouble finding motivation and am thinking about parting it out again or someone to buy the whole lot off me lol or do i swap the diesel into my petrol 4runner? keen on everyone's opinion please!
Thanks mitch AKA F@cking stupid steriotypical p-plate idiot..
Here's some before and after pic's and my runner:

looks like your on a bit of a property so what id do is if you dont have room in the shed get everything ready to swap the cabs over.
undo all body mounts and wiring and drill out the spot welds holding your front end support on both cars.

Roll the damaged cab and chassis under a tree and hoist it up.then roll that chassis away.not too far though.
then drop the damadged cab down and drag it away with the runner.

roll the new cab under the tree and hoist that up.when it is clear of the chassis pull the rolling chassis away with the runner again.

now push the chassis you are using under the new body and slowly lower it down lining the body mounts up.

depending on whether your keeping the motor atatched to the chassis or not decides how much work you have to do.

it will be alot easier with no front end on the car if you are keeping the motors in.

then all you have to do is bolt the cab up and do all the wiring then line your radiator support up and fill the drill holes with weld

hope this makes sense and helps.

Sorry to hear it mate.

Im currently doing a body swap on a 84 4Runner after rolling it, and once stripped you'd be suprised how light a body is, we have been moving around my body's with only 4 blokes (all skinny as rakes) but to lift it over a motor you'd probably want 8 blokes as it has to go pretty high at the front and both of mine still have all panels just no interior and no canopy.

and seems like your half way there with what you've done so id just finish off the job even if you just sell it when your finished it will be worth more than parted out

Cheers

One way to do it is to jack the body up off the chassis then run planks of wood side to side supporing the ends with what ever you can find. Bricks, kegs tyres or whatever. You can then roll the chassis out from underneath.

Another way if you have an engine crane is to use that to pick the body up off the chassis. Works well with smaller bodies like cars, and should work with a 4 runner easy enough. It will be a bit easier if you take the wheels off and get the chassis as low to the ground as possible. You need a good surface to do it on though like cement or pavement, as maneuvering an engine crane can be tricky.

Are you swapping a 4runner cab onto a hilux?
Or a hilux cab onto a 4runner?
As the bodymounts are totally different.

here is a tip re the 44's.

we did it a similar way, bolt a bit of 2 x 4 to your front 2 body mounts, the 2 x 4 can then rest on the 44's without risk of slipping off and injuring someone.
