I'm just curious - i've never seen patrol diffs considered for SAS use under a pajero? Is there any reason for this? Would patrol diffs work?

Diff centre (front diff) is one the wrong side.

All the mounts have to be moved in on the diffs, have to modify all the chassis mounts and yes also do a diff centre rotation.

same as when they flip lux diffs tho so not a heap more work??

what is the difference in width between paj and patrol and paj and lux?

gear ratios would also suck .. if you were going to go troll diffs you would want to make it worthwhile and go 35's .. for that to work you would need low 4.XX or high 5.XX ratios .. the best patrol gears are the factory 4.6's the aftermarket 4.88's are not as strong from what I have read with nothing lower available in Aus, lower gears are rumoured to exist in iceland etc for the monster rubber . but I have not heard of any here.
If you were to so a SAS I reckon you would either invest in a D44 front built for the passanger side drop T\Case or modify an 80 series front diff and modify buggery out of it .. at least you can get 5.x gears for it and better CV's etc.

if using patrol diffs you would have to change both front and rear due to width. with a hilux diff and IFS hubs you get very close to the same width as standard paj, therefore you dont need to change the rear.

and ratios.

i have seen a competition paj in NZ with a supercharged lexus and patrol box, transfur and patrol diffs... the driver is an absolute animal! great to watch.

The higher ratios are OK if you have the low RPM grunt to pull em. I have seen a Bronco in the states running 40inch rubber of 3.73 diff gears gears .. but that had a 513ci motor in it .. 300Nm of torque are 700rpm or something stupid like that.

Unless you are going very very custom with your paj and doing engine swaps the troll diffs dont make alot of sense due to ratio's.

How come no one says use jeep wrangler diffs? No fliping is needed and with the after market gear avaliable they can be a hell of alot stronger the nissan gear anyday.

I've got a dana 30hp under the front of my Paj, I've never broken anything.... Just in the process of putting a dana 44 with ZG disc conversion on it. You get more clearence with the Jeep diffs too :D

Ive heard the Dana 44 done before, but from what i read it was the smallest dana u would want to use. I think also things are a little dearer and harder to get ahold of when things do go south (break)

I'm putting the 44 in the back,In reality I only want to run 35's MAX.... So the Dana 30Highpinion in the front was ok... I have the 2.5tdi with a whopping 33kw and 197nm of torque at the wheels with 35's  . No way I'm going to break a dana 30 so it was a cheaper option considering the tyres I was going to run and i got the parts when I lived in Sydney.

If you had more power/ put a bigger motor in I would recommend the Dana 44 in the front

I wouldnt worry to much about the strength of the dana30hp, the wrangler is a 4ltr engine that problly has more power then the pajero motor and they will handle 35s no worries. Plus dont forget the cromolly axles and ctm joints plus other brands out there that will make them even stronger then a gq diff.
