Just wandering if anyone on here has played with this motor for power gains and what they have done and what extra they have achieved?
Econmoy figures, or lack there of, would be appreciated also if available.
Also interested in finding out what size gas tank can be fitted in place of the spare wheel and sub tank without compromising departure angle with approx 4" lift.

CHeck out C.A.P.A .com au
Apparently they have a supercharger for the petrol cruiser - takes power up to 250+ KW.
Fuel ecomony? You never get that anyway!
Just use less right foot.

supercharge or turbocharge.
you can waste time porting the head and fitting more aggressive cams but forced induction is really the only way to make big gains.
if you want fuel economy, get a diesel.

Dumbdunce, I used to own a 4.5 petrol 1993 75 series tray on gas. I was pretty happy with the power from the standard motor and can sort of remember the fuel economy from it. Ended up rolling the tray and brought a 1997 80 series coal burner as I wanted to do some outback travel.
Now having done some outback trips, the Simpson being one where fuel range is critical, the trips I plan on doing in the next 5 years or so aren't going to be fuel range dependant.
I also want more power than what I have now as the diesel just can't push 35" centrepedes as well as i would have liked but rather than turbo what I have got I think I can sell up and buy a petrol 80, put it on gas and have money left over. If I can fit a reasonable size gas tank underneath without comprimsing ground clearance then the poorer fuel economy will be offset buy the cheaper price of gas.
I'm guessing a 80 series wagon would be heavier than a 75 series tray thats why I want to find out fuel economy, especially on gas.
Sorry for the long winded reply, just helping people understand where I'm coming from

From what I have heard the 4.5 don`t like gas as it farks the heads on them, have heard that from more than one person, one of them being the son of the local toyota dealer.

Gday
I have an auto 4.5, and love it. I cant say i miss standing in diesel at the servo. Nor changing the oil every 5000. Petrols are cheap now, so u r right in what you say about selling up and affording another.
The biggest round tank you can get is 121 litres, but it hangs down a bit. I have toyed with the gas idea for a while, and i would run nothing less, but i would also do a 2 inch bodylift (at least)and custom fit the tank 2 inches higher in the chassis.
LP1 in Melbourne do an injected gas on computer conversion for 3k, this would be what i get done, as u loose no power, and it keeps the motor controlled as it should be with a closed loop system.
With the head, you need to install a valve saver with the gas, run diesel through it to save on cost if you must, and have the tappets adjusted every 40k without compromise, the gaps close up and then you get into trouble. After 200,000 kms, it will be time to get hardened seats installed, as u will run out of adjustment.
The other thing is to get a post 95 model as the injection changed from flow meter to air mass meter which is better to gas.
Now the 100 would be better, u can install 2 scooba tanks under the sidesteps of them and keep the spare in the ass.
Motor is better again with coil packs, and internal mods.
