Outer Limits 4x4 Board

where in Aus can I find something like the 9.00x16 XL or XML etc (it does not have to be a Michellen)

I have been asked by my dad to see if I can find some tyres capable of carrying a big load (suitable for a 5 tonne truck) that can do road miles but work well offroad in shale, sand and mud

(basically rubber for a delivery truck that is running around the the tip of FNQ to a few of the more obscure places)

try getting in touch with Michelin or maybe Pete Antunac as he was dealing with the big Michelin tyres

Surely the tyres that Unimogs and the Light Assualut Vechicles the army uses would be the style your after.. cant help you with what they are tho sorry

They are (but I think that they are on a 20 inch rim) Any idea where these guys might get rubber from in aus ??

Incorrect the ASLAV tyre is a 325/80-85? R16 from memory.

The truck currently has 8.25r16's on it (from memory .. it's been a long time since I got back from cairns, which is about a 34ish inch tyre..with a 9.00r16 being about a 36) which would be about the limit that would fit without major mods.

Not interested in dealing with a member of the general public .. I have asked one of the fleet management guys from Linfox to check Michelin for me .. perhas they will talk to him.

try and see if anyone in the club has Eric Andrews (he had the Yellow bundy and then a white 80) contact details he works for Michelin Australia in Port melbourne I think.

perhaps you would be better off trying another brand tyre in the same size. Dunlop custom extra grips used to be available in 9.00 16. Also there are a few different brands of bar tread available in that size. These are a lot more readily available and a hell of a lot cheaper than Michellens. Unless of course you can find some second hand ASLAV tyres.

I know where there are heaps of tyres that use to run on mogs. As the company that runs them are changing over to a different tread pattern. So when ever they get there next service they also get new tyres, whether or not they need them. Seen some that looked brand new. But they are the 20" rim ones though.

As for the tyres off an ASLAV. If I put them on the shorty, even if I left the valves out I dont think they would flex.

Flex is not an issue as they are for a truck (litterally) Not after an extreme crawler tyre just something with alot more traction than most standard truck tyres offer so basically it is purely just traction and load carrying capability ..
The brand does not have to be Michelin but it will still need to handle OK ..

i got quoted on michilin tyres from a michilin dealer, junction tyres in mentone vic. they were about 36" x 12" x 16". they were for the army landrovers.

how much were they

they were very expensive, 700 or 800 bucks, but they also quoted me $450 for 37"mtrs!!

Sounds like the ASLAV tyre pretty sure they are a 80% profile, and if Turps could check with the company he would be able to confirm this.

I did a conversion to inches a while back and I remember 36' cant be arsed now as Jason has already had a crack for both profiles.

700 hundge sounds the right price from what I remember too.

You can also get a simular pattern made with kevlar but pretty hexy can't remember what they were going to pay for them $2500 sounds familar.
