Is my fuel pump dead?

Hey guys/girls i got about 1km from work tonight and my fuel pump blew a fuse. Got it running again with a new fuse but only for a couple of hundred meters, then a few hundred more with a larger fuse but now it blows them straight away. At the moment it's on the access road to work about 200m from the car park. I'm pretty sure it's a commodore fuel pump and it's inline from a sierra tank and fuels a GTi motor. I've never changed the fuel filters or had a problem since buying the car about 3 years ago. So could the pump just be loaded up due to dirty fuel filter or do they normally do this when they die?

Just towed it to the car park and sussed it out, looks like the wiring is earthed out somewhere. It blows fuses when the pump is disconnected.

Follow your wiring from your fuel pump relay to your pump, chances are it has been "pinched" somewhere. Mine did the same where it ran from inside the cab down under to the pump. A stick or rock had knocked the plastic clip that held the wire lose and it slid between the body and chassis.

Looks like I found the problem...lets just say the previous owner who installed the GTi motor needs a slap in the face!
