More Power out of gu 2001 turbo diesel

i own a 2001 turbo diesel gu ute 4 inch lift 35s 3 inch exhaust and 43 diff ratio running 12 pound boost wanting to obtain more power it is a slug up hills have to drop back to third all the time , how do i obtain more power with out causing damage to engine
is a intercooler an option or should i increase turbo size, has any one used denco turbos, how do they go

Garret GT28 .64AR, with intercooler and adjust the fuel.
If you do a search for topics on more power or which turbo, you will find heaps of info.

it is a hard choice so many options every one has a different opion
not sure what to do am thinking of denco intercooler and then adjusting up boost

denco stuff is so over priced, have a look at frozen boost web site for IC. The stock turbo will not handle more boost to well, they tend to crack housings. Go the garret you will not regret it. Your better off getting it right the first time.

Whats your budget?
What do you use the truck for?
Towing?
Weekender?
Comp truck?
Daily work horse?
Daily Driver?
Tourer?
What do you want, power or torque?
You could go 4.6's and make a large difference before going anywhere else.

If you go 4.6's it will be worse on 35's!! Wrong ratio.

He has 4.3 now, and lowering it to 4.6 will bring it closer to factory. How will that make it worse of a slug on hills??

I have a GU 4.2td wagon on 35's and it had 4.6 and i went back to 4.3s and its a far better car with 4.3's as it sits in the middle of the power band not right at the end of it in most situations!
I towed with both ratios carrying the same load and the 4.3 got better economy and faster speeds and could hold gears better!
long steep hill 4.6s you were constantly 2nd/3rd were the 4.3s could hold 3rd all the way on the same hill.
The utes are identical to a wagon in everyway apart from diff ratio 3.9 compared to 4.1. but are 400kgs or more lighter.

interesting. Goes against the 29038023984032984 other threads on it.. specially revs harder and goes no faster. that alone doesnt make sense to me but thats not unusual... Just mine revs harder, and goes faster. Most cars I've driven do..

No point reving the tits out of something if its not making power
If your motor only makes power to around 3000rpm reving it to 4000rpm is pointless as the motor has dropped off its torque/power curve!!!!
I'm only offering input as my car has had both ratios

intercooled mine with just a factory intercooler, and wound boost to 14.5 and more fuel handles it fine, but now want more out of it. if you wanna go much more than 15psi you'll prob wanna look at a bigger fuel pump, because the standard pumps tend to run out of fuel after about 15 psi.

i use the car for long trips there is no real budget i just want to obtain more power with out overheating
i have spoke to a couple of people and they reckon toe high flow the turbo has any once done this and was there a difference

anyone considered lpg injection reading up seems like it's the goods . more power , torque and better economy , even better no snail trail of soot out the back . Haven't used it myself but what you read is impressive .

I wouldnt bother with the Highflow,
Sell your old turbo and bolt on a roller bearing turbo setup do that as it will flow more air so you can put more fuel in and get more power hence exhaust temps shouldnt be an issues.
If your having engine temp issues, check your radiator, thermostat as that will affect it also.

i spoke to a guy at mtq turbos he advised me to do a high flow turbo
but what they do is cahnge the standard inpellor which is just a bush bearing to a ball bearing one and then they port out the housing
he reckons a increse of power by 30 percent

yeah its thats better option however you may get $600 for your turbo, a new roller around 1500 or less including adaption plate..
Personally i would get a new turbo, all fresh no stress on the housing...
but..
your choice... hope this helps, if you put the right roller on expect about 130 rwkw fuel pump maxed out....

Mate of mine has had this mod done to his last 2 GU's, and loves it.
it all comes down to budget.
