550 a corner or total?
measure your shock points at both high/low flex and buy the shock vs load you need... NOT always what the book says for your car, you would be amazed at what you can find from Truck ECT that will work in other apps.
P.S. STOP SHOUTING ITS RUDE!!!!!!!

dont get toughdog, do a search on it and you will find 2 or 3 threads on the shocks falling apart inside (mine being one of them) go efs or the like, for that kind of money you can get much better shocks imo then toughdogs, id never fit a set again even if they were given to me for free, its not worth my time!

I would be looking at FOX or pro comps. Even EFS EXTREMES.

i was gonna suggest ironman foamcells, cheap, fairly strong, and offer a nice ride, and if you fuck one, wont cost ya an arm and a leg to replace it

Having held both in my hand, I would have thought the Tough Dog shocks would be better than the EFS ones. That being said I have killed a Tough Dog off road (havent used EFS). Your best off speaking to a company that stocks heaps of different brands of suspension gear to see what they recomend for what you want. Both 4WD 1 in NSW and Suspension stuff in QLD have been good to me over the years. Both deliver to your door as well to save stuffing around.

Im now running procomp shocks! They are well priced and offer a huge range. The bloke the recommanded i go with procomp also sell efs! As he had no problems at all with procomps! He even runs them on a leaf sprung rock crawler! And the blokes at suspenion stuff were great and every easy to deal with! Had them in 1 day of paying!

If your just holding them in your hand then a stick would do
EFS Elite or something rebuild-able would be best.
Superior have just released some new ones. Check their site.

You will have to go EFS extreme as they dont do elite shocks past 3".

Not the ideal set up for the $, as the valving just seems to always make the vehicle drive like a standard car, with the extra weight and you could do better for the money or a little more.
For a true 6" lift you will need something 650+ long valved to suit, and will need a bump stop spacer to fit such a long extended length.

Hey mate, Brendan here..the bloke that bought the 38's off ya.
For not much more than $550..you can get a full set of Pro-comp es9000,they are a good set of all round shocks for the money.
I had them in my old 60 and they worked well, i know its a completely different set up to ya gq but still worth a look. Cheers mate.

Pro comps do a 32 inch shock. 29inch is usually good enough for a true 6 inch lifted patrol rear.

BILSTEIN OR KONI best everyday shocks that do everything and more give Chris at locktup a call for bilsteins or koni shocks are a bit dearer but fully rebuildable look outside the square you wont be disapointed, btw both of these shocks are made by the company on the shock not just a rebadged/revalved generic unit.

no mate not diameter i was talking 4'' over standard size.
its a given that we're not talking 4'' overall length.
im looking for 12''shocks...over standard height
i think ludacris was talking overall length though

Ahh your funny. Tryin to confuse us all.

So a standard shock may have at a guess 8 inches of travel so you are after lets say 20 inches of travel out of a shock.

I would say the bloke at Pro-comp would know what hes talking about, its others that think they know what their on about is the issue here.
In your first post you said that Pro-comp dont make shocks longer than 4 inch...then you changed that by saying that they dont make them longer than 4 inch for a hilux..but they make a 6 inch longer shock for the GQ...
If you read from the top you would know that matsgrit is asking advice about shocks for his 6 inch lifted GQ...
