Outer Limits 4x4 Board

During this years competition i overheard a conversation between a few people , the conversation was about the eligability of mogs to compete
due to the lack of an actual high low range .

Got me to thinking about the rules and the actual way that they are percieved .

It seems to me that there is no requirement within the rules that states a vehicle needs to have a transfer case installed what so ever. The only statements that i could see within the rules, was that both the chassis and the body regardless of the manufacturer was originally fitted with one,
and that the vehicle in its current configuration can achieve drive to all four wheels .
To further this there is no orientation rule for the motor and box,
for instance you could place the motor any where on the chassis
as long as you did not interupt the original look of the vehicle from front or side .
you could add another axle and create a six wheel drive well .

So it would be conceivable that you could biuld ,
A lwb gq chass with a mid mounted v8 with a suzuki carry cab and six wheel drive mog, steering diffs , anybody up for the challenge

Or use a locked transaxle, motor combination mid mounted


This is just a thread to see how the rules are percieved by others.

The mogs being used only as an example.

give it a few years this wont be as stupid as it sounds today

yes i found it because i had the idea too 100% torque from idle, individual speed control on all 4 wheels, no driveshafts, no pesky CV's to bust... what's not to like?

give me a min, i thought i had it in favorites... and pirate is a PITA to search

if its the same one im thinking of the wheels are operated via hydraulics

the only crack around is still smouldering in your pipe obviously.

The Question is would a design like the above be eligable,
could you biuld a moon Truggy , and add parts of a chaneled lj body ect .
these options sound viable to me ,the way the rules are written.
What do other people see possible ?

um apart from the rear engined part, many tufftruck rigs are as you describe.

and since they dropped the rego requirement, i can't see a reason a rear engined rig won't make an apearance.

I'm sure Pete looked extensively into the rear engined option when he built his latest 40 and decided that it would be easier to go front engined. Though its probably closer to mid engined - as mine will be - with the engine sitting a good deal behind the front diff.
