What sort of mileage is he getting, the V8 isn't normally much worse then the 4.0lt Six and can be better if both are modified with bigger tyres etc.

Cheers
Steve

I have a 96 ZJ - its a stock 4.0 6 on 31's (with corrected speedo)

Just did a trip to Melbourne and got 540km to a tank..had about 5 lires left in it when i fuel'd up in Holsbrook

Around town I get around 380km to 420km per tank

i would say the milage they are getting is not far off what to be expected

My misses has an 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd with the 4.7L V8 and around town its about 17-22 L/100kms. Better on highway, but when fully loaded and towing a double horse float (with two horses), still sits on 22 litres per 100!!!

Good morning , what could i expect economy wise from a 3.7 "grand Cherokee" am torn between that and a 4.5 patrol , will tow 1.5 ton camper about 5-6000kms a yr , other than that is to be wifes daily .

Do you actually mean 4.7l V8 Drand Cherokee or the 3.7l V6 from the KJ Cherokee (I think- not a big Jeep dictionary)

I think you will find the fuel economy from the 4.5 litre Nissan is pretty poor and it wouldn't surprise me if the V8 Grand was better. Love the Nissans but the 4.5 was not really that powerful or efficient. I had a 4.8 auto whihc is quoted at 185 KW's by the factory and it used to run between about 18-22 l/100 depending on how I drove it. It however had 35's and the auto hurts it a bit but still plently of power. Best I ever got out of it trying hard was 16. Towing a 1600kg Golf offroader it could do 22's and when hooning.

From what I've read on the Jeep forums (looking into Grands now) I would expect no worse and possibly better figures from the V8 Grand and although I never owned the 4.5 GU most I have heard says they were worse than the 4.8. I say worse but for the fuel consumed I loved the power and ease of towing and 4wding and highway cruising the 4.8 gave me.Compared to a Prado I had years ago that drank not much better for far less power.

Would expect the 3.7 V6 KJ would be pretty bad towing, simply cause of the engine size and power output but that's a semi educated guess.
