Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I had the Feroza to the Mechanic this week to find the cause of it's 'MISS'. Really bad at cold start, and still there (noticable) up to 2k.
Turns out to be one of the plugs had lost it's ceramic core, and was firing all over the place, and the leads had very high resistance.
$200.00 later and all is as new, should have looked myself, but couldn't find a set of leads localy, so sent it to the pro's.

JD, how much of that was labour?

Plugs should only be $4 ea, leads should be around $70 (?) for cheapies.... A mechanic should have picked that fault in five minutes.

Mine's starting to hesitate on cold mornings (change a gear and it bogs down), could time for a lead change too....

Has anyone tried the Magnecore leads???

To the $ (no GST) Labour $101.10, Plugs $14.75, Leads $75.40.
Took them a while to do the electronics, and they also checked the compression ( no probs) as I told them I thought it might be a sticky valve.

I had to do my leads and from memory they were over $100. solved the problem of it missing, but i still have major problems with water.... when i go through puddles or creek crossings it always drops a cylinder and runs like a dog for ages..... any ideas??

Its probably just water in your dizzy, carry a can of WD 40 with ya and the next time it happens take the dizzy cap off spray it wit WD 40 and wipe it out with a rag and presto. She'll be running as good as new. There is really no way of stopping water getting in there unless you silicone the dizzy cap on i spose!

the problem seems to be getting worse tho.
I am not sure if the dizzy has a crack in it, i have never checked but when i was cruising down the road during the last rains, i went through a deep puddle on the road and it dropped to 3 cylinders for a second or 2. Do other ferozas have this problem??

If your dizzy cap has a crack in it, the car would run shit all the time. As the spark can travel down the crack instead of too the contact. See ya tomorrow. only 8.5 hours to go!

Mine doesn't have problems with water crossings, but I did notice this after washing the whole car and engine bay the other day, I had to direct a fair bit of water through the engine bay and when I went to drive home it missed on accelleration from idle. Once it got hot and dried out it was fine.

I checked the dizzy first thinking I'd hit it with WD40, but it seems the caps is bolted on and I couldnt be bothered with undoing it so I just left it to dry.

I've never had a problem when I've degreased the engine in my feroza and I usualy give it a good hosing aswell.
Havent done it for awhile though.

Anyone here ever owned a mini? Dizzy is low down and at the front of the engine and notoriously fond of puddles. The solution used to be lots of WD40, a piece of rag coiled around the leads at the dizzy top, and a plastic bag tied around the outside.

I've heard of folk placing rubber dishwashing gloves on the distributor when planning on getting their 4bys wet. Otherwise, just steer around the puddles.

wow i learned this the hard way.. theres a vent in the dizzy , usually on the back towards the bottom... it should have a rubber hose coming off of there. you guys might want to check that since it can suck water in and that was the problem for me. since i custom made a hose with 2 vents on the end.. it's solved alot of problems. i would suggest checking that vent. i think its just to allow the dizzy to dry up and it can suck stuff in and since its close to the vent where rain is pushed into from the windshield.. your dizzy is prolly suckin water from there. check it out and let me know whats up.

Last time I got water in there it was through that pesky vent. Taught me not to wash the car from underneath though. That distributor top is also a PITA to get at.

lol yes it is.... and its only held on by one bolt!!! i liked the good ol chevy ones where you just twist and turn and it pops off! i plan on sealing mine up when i'm done workin on it anyways so.... but watch that vent!

Mine's held on by two- sure you're not missing one?! The cap won't sit flush if you've only got one on there.
