Outer Limits 4x4 Board

If you had to choose between these rim sizes, which would you choose?

Factors:
- Second set of offroad only rims
- Intended tyres would be 39" and bigger
- Future flexibility

When you choose, can you specify a make and brand of tyres that would suit that rim size. Happy voting.

well the TSL's are actually 39.5x15x15
but anyway

dont think rims would b the biggest issue

its what tyres are available that suit u , and then get the appropriate rim to match

17" rims for 40"x13.5" goodyear mtrs.

For the coming 1-2 years, I'd go with 17" rims. Both 15 and 6.5 are DEAD and 16 never "were" there in the first place.

Looking more forward that a couple of years, 20" will become standard and that is the route I'll take for the buggy next year.

Bead locks are dim a dozen for 15 inch rims, can get them for 16 but not as common, 17 and up ones are allmost unheard of here in Aus ATM so the cost of them would be huge.

Just something to think about.

bfg krawlers come in 2 sizes here - 15 and 17..
as said; 17 is the future, 15 immediate future.

2 people that i have seen some dude in the winch challange i think it was a red shorty patrol

and the second set i seen was strangerover on his new buggy (but as pos will telll u they are the comptetion ones )

Trent Leen has them on his Red Shorty Ute, was running the Baja Mud Terrains.

I reckon the 17" or maybe an 18". The 20s are a bit to bling and i still reckon having a bit more sidewall allows for a bit softer ride etc.

Go the Nittos for the 18s big chance to maybe get some sort of sponsorship if you can convince them that you will be a visible player with them

17s definitely, the krawlers here only come in a 37" Tall R17!

Beadlocks for 17" rims exist, hell I am trying to sell a set! They can be bought off the shelf from offroadshop.com.au

the home made ones are out there too, and 17" rims are popular i bought some second handies for $50 each (steelies) to run my krawlers on! NICE!

17s are definitely the BOMB!
MTRs available in 17"
Rims available in 17"
Krawlers available in 17"
IROKs available in 17"
Internal Beadlocks available in 17"

20s are too big, too heavy, and cost far too much, the tyre choice is very limited, within 8 months everything will be available in a 17! If not already, which most things are.

very good points, 15s are dead, 16.5s are yuk out here in aus. 16s never were, except those new kreepy krawlers.

17s are the future, if you dont go 15s go 17s.

I know you have the stock 16s for those portals, and it seems you are thinking a street set and a comp set. that will be the best way to go, now you just need some 17s.

Just so it doesn't appear like I'm padding

i was at RMIT and it didnt say it worked properly

not too fussed about beadlock rings but you make a good point guts

that's okay still cos i can just get them laser cut

you can design a big template and use quarter and half rings to maximise space usage
