Hey everybody,
I was driving my car the other day and i noticed slight performance loss, and then a day later as i put my foot down to take off the car just slowly died in the ass, i had a mech come out and suss it out he took one spark plug out and did some sort of compression test and then turns around and tells me that the crankshaft is bent, ....... but wouldnt that stop the car in an instant? But i think its either my timing gear or my dizzy just some advice in what you fellow 4x4ers think.
cheers sic60 driva

fuel- check you are getting fuel to the carby
spark- check plugs by pulling one out and wind the car over with a plug earthed out on the head. look for the spark.
compression- if it is turning over it has not got a bent crank.

i've never herd of a crank bending anyway. i've seen one clean snapped as well as cam shafts.

i dont know the engine that well but maybe it has a crank angle sensor. i know that will stop a commodore dead.

good luck !

Yeah its easy to have a bent crank, my Valiant had a bent crank. It was only 7-thou out but enough for it not to be straight. I doubt that would slow your car down every time you put your foot down.
As the others said i would be looking at basics first, fuel spark and timing.
