Goodyear MTR's

I have just been informed by a Goodyear store that the Goodyear MTR's are for off road use and not highway use and warranty would be void if driven on road.
I have had MTR's on 2 previous vehicles which I have used probably 80% on road / 20% off road and have never been told this before or had any problems.
Evidently they have a Flexpoint of 19 PSI and if used lower than that (eg: on the beach) and then reinflated for road use the side wall can just break away.
Has anyone ever heard or had any problems with this before.

They are rated tyres so I find that hard to swallow.
The goodyear Australia website says:
"Offers aggressive offroad traction while maintaining enhanced handling on the road."

I'd say it's the local franchise owner trying to get out of warranties.
If there is a problem with the tyre I've yet to hear about it. besides as Chimpboy said they are speed rated. and do not have "For off Road use only marked on them"

One of my mates has them on an 80 series. 35 x 12.5 x 15 to be exact and its his daily driver. Almost two years old, haven't gone hard, are wearing well after about 35000 km's and will do 110km/r on the F3 all day every day with minimal noise.
Highly recomended tyre other than the new BFG KM2 which I run. Both exceptional tyres on and off road for the size and aggressive tread pattern.

I ve owned four sets of 35x12.50x15 GoodYear Wranglers.Driven all of them from 100% tread to 0% tread, never ever had any drama's with a tyre.Currently on my fifth set of GY, best steel radial 4x4 tyre you can by.
I've been told the warranty does cover on and off the road.I've never got the warranty and haven't had a problem's and my tyre's do get used for serious offroad work.

my mtr's have done somewhere in the vincinity of 65 thousand kays and been run as low as 16 psi for quite long beach runs eg granville harbour to the pieman river and back . with no dramas other than rolling one off its bead by hitting a submerged log. i've also had one or two off the rims repairing holes (pick up your screw drivers
) and the insides look like new so i'd agree with black bull and bogged
mark

You can only buy the new style MTR :( Or I'd have another set.

Anyway they are all speed rated and afaik they always have been. There is no way they are "off-road only" in either the new or old form.

As I said I have had 2 previous sets and never had a problem, also I won't be letting this stop me from buying another set.
Just thought what he said was interesting, I have also sent email to Goodyear Australia's tech department, will be interesting to see their reply.

Bogged, you can still get the old style patern, just put a pair on the front, available from Goodyear in Croydon or Boronia.

I have just received the following reply from Goodyear marketing,
"Normally a tyre like an MT/R is designed for and is best used in off road conditions. We would recommend spending
a high percentage of use off road. These tyres may be driven on-road and our warranty would cover them provided
there is reason to believe that the tyres are in any way defective.
Hope this helps."
Make of it what you will!

Bogged have to agree the old pattens tire is as rare as rocking horse shit in the popular sizes.
Have been after 3 35x12.5x15 for months to match up with one I have in the shed which has never been on the troll. Could only find 2 in Goodyear warehouse in Melbourne and Goodyear tire tracking system could not find more at any of their outlets or affiliated tire stores.
Looks as if I'm up for 4 new pattern one's now,
!
