5inch supension doesnt seem be flexing well.

i got 5inch spring, 2 inch body.
for a 5inch lift my patrol doesnt flex as good as some other patrol going around with simplier specs.
i thinking going new 6inch springs or maybe getting new 5inch coils.
if i got 6inch springs will i need change my dropboxes?
im not very in 4wding things but i enjoy taking mine out, all info is welcome.!

disconnect the swaybars for a start when your 4wding
and you also need to measure the length of your shocks, you may find the shocks are maxing out stopping your flex.
you will also find the front will flex shite as it is because the bushes are already in compression from the lift, consider different arms, superior superflex arms seem to be all the rage

Disconnect your shocks and flex it up and then take some measurements to work out what lenght shocks you need.
Longer coils won't make difference for flex.

you could have a 100inch lift, but that doesnt mean it will flex well if the whole thing is not correctly matched and setup...

Now you're just being silly, everyone knows that a 100inch lift is overkill

as said remove swaybars and check your shock lengths.

That's all that's in mine, 5 inch coils, 2 inch body with 36" centipedes. It'll go just about anywhere.
I did however take out the passenger front radius arm bolt to get the front to flex so well. The front ends on Patrols and Landcruisers, (besides leaf spring), act like a huge sway bar and limt the travel by binding on the bushes. By removing the one bolt, (off road only), it will let the diff rotate without binding. It's not the best way to do it but it works and it's free.

have you got a pic of the bolt removed? just to make sure im thinking the same bolt as you. im doing this next time im going wheeling, seems about a thousand dollars cheaper than the next alternative

It's the bolt closest to the front on the passenger side radius arm. Here you can see the arm dropping out of the ears on the diff.

I wouldn't do it, but read the info in the link below and make you own mind up.

My GQ flexes like that at the front without taking a bolt out

Nice front flex Grimbo
, the rear end isn't under load either, its just the front flexing.

Sorry Grimbo, I don't think so.
Although it's good to see that sudso has gotten the superior superflex arms to work to their capabilities. A mate of mine put a full superior 5 inch kit with the superflex arms in his wagon and it didn't flex as good as sudso's shorty (I peeked at his other photos).
I never said that this was the ideal way to get flex, vitopatrol said
vitopatrol wrote:" for a 5inch lift my patrol doesnt flex as good as some other patrol going around with simplier specs"
Mine flexes shite with the bolt in so I take it out when wheelin. I've never had a drama with doing it and neither do my other mates. Plus it handles great on road with the bolt in, as compared to the mate with the new superior kit which tends to want to tip over. Besides that superior arms are illegal QLD anyway (not saying that my lift isn't).

Na, coil is seated still and shock is at full extension. Not the best photo I know.

What shocks are they? They have good travel.
Is the coil starting to unseat?

The coils stay firmly seated in the front but the rears I had to make seat extensions so the coils don't pop off the seat when all twisted up. The front shocks are Monroe Van Magnums and the rears are Monroe Gas Magnum.

the additional photos show more flex but the one you originally posted was easily matched by the Sim mobile one and his is all connected

Thats wierd as mine has less flex and my coils are half unseated in the pic above.

Yeah grimbo, that's an old photo and not the best example for huge flex I know, but it was the easiest to show the arm dropping out of the bracket. Which is what "love ke70" asked...

sim79 wrote: Thats wierd as mine has less flex and my coils are half unseated in the pic above.
All depends on your spring rate. Heavier duty springs are generally thicker and shorter. Flexier springs are thinner and longer to acheive the same height. I can't stand hearing other patrols flexing through gullies banging away as the springs drop in and out.
So this shorty is yours sim79? The way the thread was going, I thought it was Sudso's. Sorry, my bad.

but this has the same sort of flex and it doesn't want to tip over, in fact it won almost every winch comp series in QLD last year.
maybe you should just buy one of these----

I never claimed that my rig was the sickest flexing truck ever and in addition, my rig is worth far less than your sponsored comp truck. Although it is nice to know what my $5000 family wagon is being compared against.
Once again "love ke70" asked:
love ke70 wrote: have you got a pic of the bolt removed?
I showed a pic of the bolt removed.
Grimbo challenged the capabilities of "bolt removed from standard radius arms vs superior superflex arms bolt in"
I showed a pic flexed up, bolt out.
I'm getting tired of this flex-off/ flex war thing, I've already gone through it on another thread.
The original post is " 5inch supension doesnt seem be flexing well" and "vitopatrol" stated:
vitopatrol wrote:...for a 5inch lift my patrol doesnt flex as good as some other patrol going around with simplier specs...im not very in 4wding things but i enjoy taking mine out, all info is welcome.!
I have 5 inch lift and found the same with mine. I was given the suggestion to remove the one bolt from the radius arm and it works for me (crawling off road only). Whether or not "vitopatrol" wants to do it or not, it's up to him. No, it's not the best way to get flex, never said it was, but it works, it's cheap and IT'S FREE.

here is a pic from ages (2003) ago of my white gq wags. 5" dobinson coils and shocks worked very well for a standard swap over.
not a flex war but here is a pic of the bus with the old shorter shocks and a 5 link front end. new 100mm longer shocks fitted y/day.... no pics yet.
I have heard of a lot of guys taking the bolt out and they have all said that as far as off road goes it was good.
I have had nearly every front end so far.....standard setup lifted, 3rd arms, 3rd arms with x-lnk combo and now a 5 link. every one has its pros and cons and everyone likes something different.
love my truck off road but it is boatlike on the road....... it suits me.
