A/C in a v6 conversion

hey guys, im hoping someone here can help me. Ive got 1994 lux 2wd (sorry) with a commodore vp engine in it and im trying to get the a/c to work. At the moment im not even getting the a/c light to come on, or the power to the old a/c cable.

I know alot of u guys in the 4wd have done this conversion and also wired it with the a/c. could people please share with me what they have done

im guessing you have no heater fan either

That sounds like a strong possibility, if the fan is not working the A/C will not be working - I hope!

With all fault finding start simple - bit like me :oops:

Look at what is working and what is not, same with tracing the actual fault, work from the switch, if it has no power go back further.

Often Car A/C will have several protection devices like pressure switches, check the they are ok, most will be a closed circuit when ok, try adding power +12V via a fuse to the section that is missing power, providing the fuse dose not blow see if it powers up the Compressor clutch, fans ect.

if you have no pressure in the system, you wont get power threw to the ac pump to engage the clutch.
As for the ac light not coming on when u press it. fuse maybe? Does the fan work?

i was thinking it might be a sensor that im missing now that the v6 in and running and the 22r isnt. Ill cheak to see if any of the fans are working, i get the feeling that there not but ill cheak that, ive cheak fuses and relays and all are working ok. It will be something simple i think, but i thought it may have something to do with the engine swap.

hey guys, ive done what u said and cheak the heater and yer there isnt any heat or cold air coming into the cab. Does anyone knoew how the 22r engine and heating works, is there a thermostat or some pressure switch. It was working b4 i took the 22r out so it must have something to do with a feed back, pressure sensors, thermostats.

There muxt be someone who has done this same conversion with air condition that has had the same problem.

ok so i found a problem, i turns out that the fan and everything inside the cab get powered off a cable that goes to the front fuse box in the engine bay, this cable get power from the alternator. What ive done is wire this cable to a switched active of the ignition, so when i turn on the car i get the power and the fan comes in.

still the problem is when i hit the a/c button i dont get any power at the plug in the engine bay. Im thinkig there is some pressure switches in the a/c box under the dash and that is why it wont let power through to the plug, i think if i get all the a/c lines hooked up it should work

The Pressure switches are usually outside in the engine bay, often somewhere along the Gas lines, either switch should have a closed circuit even with the motor off.
There will be some form of Thermostat sensing the inside (Evaporator) Temperature and is usually set to cut out prior to the coil icing up, prior to comfort control systems in cars the AC was designed to pump out cold air and to keep doing this with the Evap coil just above freezing until you the driver decide to switch it off.

i dont remember any cables going to any a/c pipes or coil, only the one that was on the compressor. Is it possible that they will be inside the cab. Under ther passengers feet there is a large box heaps of cables going into it and one of them is the cable that goes to the power for the compressor.

i havnt connected a taco cable at all. I dont have a taco on the hilux cluster so i never connected the cable that says, taco.

this sounds like it could be a problem. the kit i got was from v6 conversions. does anyone know how the taco cable is ment to be connected up in a 1994 hilux, it isnt sr5 that is why there is no taco on the dash.

is your system a factory nippon denso or an after market system
if it is a factory system it has a little computer called an aircon amplifier
this controlls the clutch the clutch will not engage unless
the fan is on,
the aircon switch is on
the electronic thermatic probe says its too warm turn on
the system has gas (low pressure switch is made closed)
the pressure is not too high (high pressure switch)
the engine is above idle (tacho signal)

have you met all of this criteria???
