What is the standard wiring used on the gq and what should I upgrade to in order to get brighter lights?

I think it's 1.5mm.
If your going to upgrade to 100w + globes I'd run a minimum 2.5mm feed to each headlamp from the relay

Ok thanjs Black Bull. Howmuch of a difference will that size make with the standard light?

IF your using standard 55/60 watt globes, upgrading the wiring won't make much if any difference at all.
It is neccesary though if you upgrade to larger globes, I rewired Moose's Patrol last week after one of his plugs had melted and still have to do my Falcon

I need to do something similar to my pathy, what sort of relay would be used for this application.
It seems old pathy's had the power running through the arm on the steering wheel, and it tends to short out a lot, up to my third arm
Is there a 'standard' relay to be used, or can i just visit the local electronics store for some relays??

Depends on how the circuit is or how you want it to be wired, in most cases yeah just use one 4 or 5 pin relay for Hi and another for low.
Try Bursons they have the bosch ones in stock, I find them the best

G'day,
I rewired the headlights on my GU. I was running higher wattage globes and the H4 plugs melted. If your gonna do this I would recommend using ceramic H4 plugs. I got mine from
www.larpro.com.au
I also used the heavy duty relays(40amp) for each globe switched off each globes power wire.
There are some upgrades which use your existing H4 plugs for the relay switching signal. I thought this was messy and with melted plugs would not work for me. I have mounted my relays right next to the main battery. This gives me a nice short thick power wire to the ceramic H4 plugs.
I'm very happy with the output and have measured it all up so I can duplicate it for my missus and mates GU's.

I just fitted an out of the box an ARB M002 loom.
Plugs straight in.
