Outer Limits 4x4 Board

G'day all just picked up my new Patrol today (a 92 TD42 wagon) and noticed the fuel filter doesn't seem to be same as stock Ryco i picked up for it! Here is a pic of the filter on it any help would be appreciated as I am new to diesel Patrols as have owned a TB42 for over 8years.

just found out it's one of the most common upgrades to a CAV which are only $5-$7 each compare to $40 odd Just need to know what to ask for at the shops

Leave it in, they are good.
You can see any water in the glass bowl and the filters are cheap to replace and you can get them just about anywhere.

Truck shops, tractor shops, marine shops and diesel shops have them.
REPCO has them but as the name suggests (Rip Every Poor Customer Off) you will pay premium

cheapest places to go are truck shops. I pay about $4 from kenworth and they are fleetguard filters( i think partno. 196AA). I and many others find fleet guard to be the least restrictive. Fleet guard is attached to cummins, so no need to worry about quality.

Think the denso are rated at 2 micron and fleetguards at about 5 microns.

Enjoy the benifits of cav filters, just remember to replace all the orings and dont over tighten them

hey guys how much would the up grade cost? and are the filters better than the standard ones? they are smaller so they would less area to filter? i have seen few GQ's run both is the best way? thanks stu

From memory the whole filter setup inc priming pump on top was less than $100. Might have gone up since then

It depends on what car you have will depend if you fit one or not. West End told me the CAV296 was great for old style injection, but the electronic common rail stuff should stay genuine filter, however you can add the CAV in before the genuine one as a precaution
