Hilux 3L Problems. Assistance Needed...

Finished putting back together most of my 3L motor (apart from radiator and cooling hosing)
Thought i would try kick over the motor to make sure it started sweet before i finished putting the radiator etc back on, didnt want to find a problem then have to pull the radiator all back off again.

Motor turns over fine but didnt start. pulled off the injector pipes and diesel didnt come out when i cranked it over.
Traced it further back to the injector pump, didnt hear or feel the fuel cut off solenoid click when ignition was turned on.
Removed and tested solenoid and it worked fine. had 12v at solenoid wire too.
Went even further back to the fuel heater i think it is, (with the priming button on the top of it) removed the outlet hose and tried to prime, no diesel came out.

How does the fuel get to the heater, is there a fuel pump in the fuel tank or does the injector pump have enough suction to pull it out of the tank???

is there something i have completely overlooked??

would i have messed up the timing of the motor as well when i pulled the motor apart?
Ii only went as far as taking the head off and replacing head gasket, timing case gaskets etc,
I didnt remove the injector pump or play with it at all (apart from removing the mounting nuts which attach it to the timing case

Sounds like the hoses on the uplift pump are on backwards or the uplift pump isnt working and you cant get the fuel to the engine.
If your got a air compressor take the return fuel hose off the injector pump(the smaller one) and gently blow air into the hose until diesel comes out the return on the pump.

dont mean to sound like an idiot, but what is this "uplift pump? the injector pump? or the thing with the primer on it?

i didnt remove any fuel hoses when i pulled the motor apart (apart from the hard lines from the injector pump to the injectors. the motor was running fine before i pulled it apart

"dont fix what aint broke" comes to mind. lol

so got the thing running,
thanks Sam, took your advice, put compressed air down the return line, and it started up after a few cranks.

but i seem to still have the same problem as before i pulled the motor apart, which was a coolant leak coming out of the bottom of the timing cover.

can only guess it is coming from the water pump, i think thats the only part in the timing case that has coolant running through it...

i replaced all gaskets and rubbed back all gasket mating surfaces.

might have to pull the timing cover off again and have another look. :? :? :?
