Yes i know ive set myself up for some silly comments.

Anyhow when i brought car when driving straight steering wheel was close to centred. But it seems everytime i take it offroad it moves a bit its now at the point that when driving straight the steering wheel is almost 45 degrees to the left.

Any ideas? doesn't seem to do it on road just evertime it goes bush.

The tie rod is moving inside the end of the steering arm, or you have bent something

have a look at the splines on the sector shaft (the shaft coming out the bottom of the steering box)
The sector shaft can end up twisted quite easily. The splines should be straigh, if they look the are running diagonally, the shaft is twisted. also look for cracking paint on the splines as a sign of twisting/stress.

I twisted one, changed steering boxes and twisted the replacement 12hrs later by hitting a rut at around 20-30km/h

Another possible answer is you have twisted the splines on the shaft comming out of the steering box that the pitman arm bolts too. You should be able to see them twisted if that is the problem.

i doubt the splines on the box will twist far enough to make the wheel move 45 degrees. If it has tho DO NOT DRIVE IT.

due to the steering box ratio, the splines only have to twist a few degrees to make the steering whell shift a lot further.

The first one I twisted, the steering wheel moved approx 90degrees, the sector shaft twisted by no where near that.

I just did mine too. Steering wheel alignment was out by more than 90degrees. Replaced steering box. (sector shaft was twisted).

I just bought a second hand 70 relay rod for my 60 PS conversion on my 40.. It came with a pitman arm.. In the end of the pitman arm was the remains of the sector shaft, it had sheared clean.. The relay rod is perfectly straight, and I dont detect any bend in the pitman arm.. The rod ends still feel good.. There was some misalignment on the damper eye and damper frame bracket..

This would make it appear that the weak link is the sector shaft.

check the 4 bolts that hold the steering arm to the swivel hub...common for them to come loose too
