Hay all this is probably going to be a essay but i hope someone reads it all..
i have been one of those members who doesn't post much, i have a 1991 2.4 surf with a hair dryer strapped to the side, its a great car but has sh!tty IFS and not enough room for most of my carp as i tend to live out of my car. so im thinking of upgrading to a late 90s 80 series or 79 series i'm leaning to wards the the 79 as it has less body panels to den't and i'm good at that,
my parents used to own a 80 so i know what they are like but im after info on the 79
- how is the ride on long trips as ill be doing the round aus thing in it.. (yeah ill swop out the seats i know those are crap)
- after you have a 4" lift and 33's / 35s do they play all over the road like lux's and 75s
- has anyone had real problems with stuff been nicked from a canvas canopy (or a general question)

which ever car i get i'll build it to go hard but have comforts for touring its just which one i get...

cheers guys..

If size is an issue then consider that a 79 is about the same size as 4runner.

A 79 could be almost as comfortable as an 80 suspension wise, you just have to get it set up right for the weight you are actually carrying. There might be more vibration from the leaf sprung rear, but there is no reason it has to be harsh over the bumps.

4inch in a 79 is probably a bit too much for touring. They have a narrow track and loaded up with all the gear are pretty top heavy.

An 80 with 4 inch will work OK, but it takes alot of money to get it riding factory smooth at high speeds. Thats from personal experience.

Probably one of the best mods you could do for any truck that will travel rough dirt roads would be a suspension seat.

cheers guys. yeah i figure neither is a cheap swop and i'll live with that. the only real reason to go with a 79 ute is that it has less panels there isn't a strait one of my surf.. how much narrower is the 79 then the 80 i new it was but never looked like all that much...
i know the 80 in stock form is great we have had a few and a mate just got a povity pack one cheap even on pizza cutters it kept up most of the way on the last 2 trips (sills and steps get a hammering)

this is true... but i find my supra seats do a good job and i hope i can make them fit in whatever i get...

as for sleeping i'm a little over 6ft so i cant really sleep in the back of anything. but swags are great so its all good
cheers for the help guys...
