Fuel Gauge

I bought a 2005 Holden Rodeo 3L ITD the other day and have since found the fuel Gauge to be inaccurate.

It was showing under a quarter tank of diesel left, when filled up it only took 38L till it was full.

It then preceded to show just under a full tank and went down to half a tank after 140km.

Decided to fill it back up to see how many L of diesel was used from the full tank only 12 L had been used.

Any Ideas on how this can be fixed?

Get hold of the electrical specs for that vehicle and then remove the fuel sender and test its resistance at full and empty positions against what the manual says it should be.
If it tests OK then replace the gauge.
