hi guys ive got a 2.4 t/d surf and my mechanic says its got low compression on all 4 cylinders so it needs to be reconditioned new rings the question is would it be worth getting that done or better to do an engine swap? someting like a 1uz-fe

depends on the wallet mate..
if you've got the moolah .. go the 1uzfe...
small wallet? - fix your current engine up.

even if its completely stuffed you should be able to pick up a reconditioned one for less than 4 grand, you will be hard pressed doing a conversion for 4 grand
chances are if you do a full rebuild it will cost ya $2-$3grand (if block is alright) (which it should be)

it depends what is involved and how much you do yourself. If you do the pump and injectors at the same time then it can get costly. I would look into more boost and a better exhaust at the same time.
