Gooday, Help needed, i am currently using 265x75x16" cooper tyers and thinking of upgrading due to the ware factor. Can i go upto say 285x75x16"
with out worrying about diff ratios or loads etc. Thanks in advance,
Gazza

Yes you can, you will notice some sluggishnes due to the increase in your final drive ratio but not really great enough to warrant a diff ratio change.

Ware factor?

ware factor? assumming you mean wear factor? which i think you mean a bigger tyre has greater circumference and should last longer?

ok if your trying to be more efficient a 285 will give you 6% more circumference and cost more than 6% more to buy. It will also use more fuel.

so in short if your doing it to be $ efficient then your barking up the wrong tree.

But yes a patrol will run a 285/75/16 without any major issues, it will effect your power and ecconomy a little, it will effect your speedo and odo by 6% etc.

this difference is only minor so diff ratios etc will not need changing.

but yes you can.

Overall 30mm change in diameter, same as new tread to worn out, increase of 30/803mm = 3.7% from standard. RN wouldn't be able to ping you in Melbourne for being over the limit at an indicated 60 km/h.

yup - assuming your coopers are ST or STT, change to a highway terrain tyre (road tyre) and retain the factory size - this would see you getting far improved tread wear and economy... however it will also leave you travelling pretty much exclusively on the road.

G'day all, sorry what i meant by wear factor was my tyres are wearing out, so need replacing soon. I did want to continue 4x4 work with what ever tyre i go for. Mind you i suppose 4x4ing = 10% and daily drive the remainder. I must admit i am very disappointed with the coopers st. the way they deteriorate quite quickly on rocky terrain, the chunks just seem to fly off. I had Hercules terratracs previously with no problems. I think from memory they were 3 or 4 ply side walls compared to 2 ply on the Coopers. Anyway, are you guys recommending not to go the bigger tyres when 4x4ing, but other wise ok for the daily drive.
Thanks Gazza

i ran STTs for ages (cooper also) and passed my lane change test with them on... they hardly wore too... perhaps the ST you had was a bad batch or your pressures were out?

Otherwise - check out the tyre topic index, theres a lot of tyres there with people's opinions.
