Good Value Air Compressors? For 31-33" 4x4 tyres?

Posted: Fri Apr 30, 2010 7:27 am
by CRUSHU
Looking to buy a compressor today, and looking for recommendations for a good value compressor.
I will be occasionally using it in my 4by, to pump up 31-33" tyres, so it doesn't need to be a monster.
Just looking to not end up with an overpriced lemon!
Let me know your brands and aproximate prices!

Thanks

I have a large workshop compressor in my shop and I have one of these in my truck, it is light, quiet and I am very happy with it.

Either an ARB CKMA (12/24) or an Endless air on motor with a tank.
I have used both with good results.

I would have alook at the Bushranger range. They have heaps of different models, and most are compatible with air tanks down the track if you need more. I have the Max Air II and it has been great. Costs around the $400 mark I think.

why not look at the arb portable compressors.

identical compressor to the high volume on board one except this one comes in a neat plastic tool box, has a long power lead with alligator clips, includes the tyre inflation kit (worth $55) and if later on down the track you wanted to run lockers you can take it out of the box and use it as an onboard.

I've got two here on special for $330 each.

3 year warranty, I can freight today if you want.

here's a pic

Where did you get it for $130? I want one of these but the cheapest I've seen is $174 plus postage on ebay.

looks a bit like the sidewinder mentioned above, have had the sidewinder for almost a year now, was certainly the fastest on the market back then....for the price, under $200.

Chris that web site is quite misleading, I don't know if it is deliberate or just a typo but the pump you referred to (PX02) is 1/4 HP 1.5CFM and doesn't list LPM in the specs, the PX07 is 3/4 HP and is listed as 170Ltr (I assume they mean per minute) approx 3.5CFM, something does not add up to me.

PX07 Specs:

** 12volt compressor
** 3/4 Horsepower engine
** 100% duty cycle
** 170ltr free flow rate (approx 3.5cfm)
** Recommended working pressure 0-150psi maximum pressure 200psi
** 35 amp maximum draw

PX02 Specs:

** 12volt compressor
** 1/4 horsepower
** 1.5cfm free flow 50% duty cycle
** Recommended working pressure 0-150psi - max pressure 200psi
** 3/8npt port head
** Built in air filter
** Crankcase fed design
** Max amp draw 25amps start up under load

3/4 hp = 562 watts

@ 12v, 560 watts = 47 amps

yet only draws 35 amp max................... :?

even taken to 13.8 volts is still over 40 amps

its a very big drain when it starts up thats for sure, but once running it doesnt seem to pull as much, just judging by the headlights at night when it turns on

I noticed they were both 170lpm but they had a different duty cycle.

the 170 lpm bit is only in the heading to the description, I think it has been incorrectly included in the PX02 advert (deliberately or accidentally I don't know, but it is EBay)

Peter.

to give you an idea on the time the px07 takes, it pumped a 9l air tank from 0 to 140psi in 2min
