Waterproofing Electricals

I was driving along a track and went thru a puddle up to about half of a wheel depth and the water splashed into the engine bay. The car started to splutter and it was running on the 3 cylinders. I sprayed WD40 over the leads and dizzy/coil and it ran back to normal. Is there anyway to waterproof the electricals to avoid this problem?

Feroza dizzy's don't like being wet.
My mates solution has worked a treat. It includes:
- Silicone the dizzy cap.
- fit a rubber glove around the dizzy.
- Water dispersant gel (vaso or similar) around plugs/lead ends.
