does anyone have an answer to stoping the grease. Ive done 3 seal kits and its still leaking.

Is the diff oil leaking in????

replace your axle seals be careful not to nick them putting axles back in or the same will happen.

Leaking cruiser axles is standard factory fitment and a PITA.

Superior Engineering sell some heavy duty axle seals and backing plates which help

You would also want to look at the swivel hub bearings (if you are talking front axle) as movement here will allow the axle to move against the seal.
You should also check to see that the shims are in the correct place so that the knuckle will hold the axle central to the axle tube (this is explained in the manual)

You can also run a heavier diff oil in the front and lower the level so its below the axle oil seal height.

Or better still, slip some late model Nissan axles under it. Much better seal design

I bought some off ebay, did it myself and never had a leak again. I did change al bearings and seals at the same time.

standard seals work well enough. Assuming everything else on the axle is right, then the axle housing itself could be bent. They are not the strongest, and if some goon has been jumping it over sand dunes then it's a strong possibility.

ps don't call your cruiser a landy. Not because it will upset the latte sniffing land rover type, but because it's an insult to Mr T being associated with those back yard built jalopies

Check your diff breathers arent blocked, housing isnt bent and king pins are adjusted right with no slop, also check where the seal sits on the axle isnt worn/scored/pitted or rusty.

Now install new seals and make sure you support the axle so it doesnt damage the seal as you put it in.

i reckon the orignal seal has worn a groove in the axle or the shims count isnt correct and the axle is off center.


just to clarify is it grease or diff oil that is leaking

If a basic FULL rebuild hasn't fixed the problem you need to be looking deeper.

Do the axle seal surface require a speedysleeve?
Are the housings bent and require straightening?
Is the bronze outer axle tube in the stub axle worn?
Have the shims in the kingpins that hold the swivel housing in the correct height been placed correctly or not at all?

there are others but those are the usual culprits
