Driving without a CV

hey guys,
i blew my cv up last night, short side. just pulled it out then and it's completely smashed. i think the axle broke.
anyway i need to get to work tomorrow and didn't have any luck sourcing one today and was wondering if i can drive without the cv in? the wheel bearing would all be locked onto the stub axle with the lock nuts so i can't see any problems with the wheel fallIng off. i could drain all the diff oil so that it won't piss out everywhere. anyting else i'm missing?
cheers

hey bro i got a 80 and ive been driving 4 a month without front drive i left the cv in disconnected front drive (constant fourby)
sealed the hub end with a rag to stop crap coming out and wollah.
if you got hubs just put ur hub back on should seal it up

yeh got the hubs btu don't want diff oil to wash my bearings so figured i would just drainthe oil not constant 4wd so won't matter . i would drive with broken cv but i have no steering lock and is quite dangerous.

Your 80 is constant 4wd so the diff is still being driven, if you drain the oil out, the diff won't have any lubrication while its spinning. Patrols aren't constant so you could get away with draining oil and drving around if you had to, aslong as you didn't engaged 4wd or the hubs. Don't recommend it though.

why is it being driven? hubs will obviously be unlock so no drive to diff at all.
so anyone know if i can drive without the cv?

yes you can drive a patrol without cv's just pull the cv's out and reassemble it without the cv/axle in there.

I don't get why you should remove the prop shaft.
Unlock the passenger side hub and reassemble the drivers side without the CV/axle. It will be fine, providing you drain the oil so it doesn't spew out the open axle. I'd also be jamming a rag into the open axle end but that's just me.

oh yeah and just to clear sumpin up 4 you your hubs only engage ur wheels not ur diff.
when u select 4wd it engages your front driveshaft which spins ur diff.

yeh cheers i was quite aware of that. wasn't going to go 4wd'ing with it haha. if it was a constant 4wd i'd have to worry about it

i had this issue not being able to source cv and just put it back together and drained the oil as the other guys said not a drama, drove it from brissy to melb, even via stockton beach, didn't do anything too fun but still drove on the beach haha
