Alternator issues after subaru retrofit

I've just put a (known working) subaru leone alternator (IC Reg) in my samurai (fits without modification!) but it isn't quite working right. The alternator light on the dash stays lit dimly and the voltage goes way up to around 17V if I rev it. The wiring in the zuk has taken a bit of a hammering -- I'm still chasing up bad earths etc. after it got sunk the last time, so I'm wondering if this could be caused by a wiring issue.....
The feedback wire for the reg on the small plug on the alt should just be connected to +12V when the engine is running, correct?

Hmmm, u should have used the mitsi ef falcon alt much easier and proven to work.

Not easier at all (the subaru one bolts straight in), and any alternator will work electrically -- a 3 wire alt is a 3 wire alt. Turns out the VR in the alternator has quit.
Of course, if I had found a falcon alternator for the right price I would have gone with one, since they have a much higher output than the leone ones. Not terribly easy to find stuff like that over here (NZ) as most of it ends up at wreckers who charge ridiculous prices -- I'm not paying over $100 for a second hand alternator!

how many amps is the suby alt?

The suby alt isn't a lot more than the stock zuk one -- 55 or 60 amps or so I think. Only reason I put one in is because I had one lying around.
built4thrashing, where is that from?

Could anyone clarify exactly what falcon alternator fits? And do they just require a pulley swap to fit or more?
Is this the right one?

(not that I plan on buying another second hand one, had enough of that carry on!)
