GQ Diff Breathers

Hi Guys,

After looking at the diffs on my GQ, it seems they already have breather extensions on them. Is this standard. I can trace the front one to dissapear into the engine bay, and can see a little tube sticking up next to the Fuel filter, but cant seem to trace the rear one, it goes into some large tube then I cant trace it from there...

Am I right about the front one finishing up at the Fuel filter?
Anyone know where the rear one runs too?

Thanks

Andrew

front one joins up with the gearbox breather and goes into the inner guard on passenger side.
rear one stops in that large tube that you speak of.

I have looked before when helping out mates with their projects and reckon the rear one doesn't go anywhere from the large tube and reckon the front goes into the inner guard on the left hand side. While you're at it check out the g/box & t/case but from memory I think they go where the front diff one goes.

Ok, so probably no need to extend the front, if you were to extend the rear, would you just replace the pipe with an extended one that runs higher up the car

if you are putting a lift in you should extend them

Correct. and nearly all 4x4's get a lift. and when you get wheel travel the diff breathers can pop out :?

Happened to me.. so went and got some piranha breathers.. just gotta put them in AFTER the 4.2 makes its way in the engine bay.

how exactly do I go about extending them, do I replace the entire line, or do I just extend from the end of the current line?? :?

What i plan to do with my breahters is to route them ALL to the engine bay - which requires new lines etc.

I bought mine as a kit from one of the boys here who had a piranha kit for sale. Has one way breathers at the end which prevents water ingress but allows air to go in and out.

The rear diff breather i'd hook up to the gearbox breather extension and run a T section and run them all to the engine bay to the highest spot possible - top of firewall perhaps?

DO NOT fit ONE WAY breathers. Use an open small petrol type filter.
One way ones close under contraction putting neg pressure in diff etc. This means water can get sucked thru seal,s bearings etc.

don't do that, the smell in the cab will be unbearable as soon as the diffs warm up..
