Sorry if this has been done before.
I'm just looking through the carsales site at Cruisers and have found a few nice swb varients.
I'm just wondering if some are better than others for 4WDing or are they all basically the same set up?
I'm talking Bundera's, FJ40's, BJ42, etc etc
I found this one which looks fun:

mate how much is it???
and is it BJ or FJ???
Bj is diesel Fj is petrol and yeah its been done before.
I am guessing it is an FJ because it looks like a gas tank filler in the back there.
mate they are fun trust me!
but if you go the soft top remember winter is a bastard!
rain is a bastard!
cut down doors are cool! (but fibreglass ones are cooler!)
and you might wanna go spring over on that puppy!
oh and its a nice newish looking paint job so be very wary of rust , and remember the paint job will be scratched up in no time if you go hard..

Bunderas have the same 3 link coil suspension similar to the 80 series. But overall, it is a lightweight landcruiser... with hilux running gear.
So 40/42 series are alot stronger in that building respect. Regardless, i am happy with my bundy as it suits my life and is a bit more comfortable on road. Here's a pic of my bundy...

It says FJ40 :S
I'm not really thinking of getting one as the missus would hate it, just wondering if they're the same setup etc?

That bundy looks sweet, i'm thinking that could be an option as it has a roof
So with the solid axles etc they'd be pretty good offroad then....

Bunderias have the 2.8 lux motor and a three link coil front end.
70 middies and 73 swb models range from the petrol or diesel 6's and the same 2.8 lux motor, and leafs alround (solid axel)
FJ 40 have the 2H (4.2 OR 1) petrol motors which drink like an alcoholic
BJ 40 have the 1B 3 litre motor, which is a 4 cylinder, which can be a bit weak.
BJ42 have the 3B 3.5 something motor, which is better.

also i have a soft tope exactly the same as that, they are a pitta to get into on a cold day, the canvo gets covered in crap, which when you try to get out of it, transfers to your clothes. Also the wind noise is phenomenal, like a 747 on take off, if your speed is above 80Km’h. Those stupid little catches which hold the canvo on, come loose and hammer away like a MG42 on a D-day beach, and scratches and dings the paint. If the top is off, you cant hit a mud hole faster than 20 km/h, cos the mud comes straight into the cab and gets over everything except the dash because of the windscreens overhang.
Other than that, there cool and pull chicks like you wouldn’t believe.

Ahh ok, thanks for that info. Is the 4.2L the same as the one in the 80 series/maverick? I guess they drink like a fish too.....?

can't really say, because i havn't had much to do with them. the 2H is lazy thats all, but with a bit of work, like Headers, free flowing and a better carbie set up, they really can get up and go.
the BJ's will run forever provided there looked after.

The FJ40 has 2F motor. 4.2litre Petrol. it is a thirsty machine. mine uses about 1 litre every 5km..... yep......
and all what was said about them was true!
the best parts of a 40 are their worst faults... but i lurv mine!

Going by the pic, this one would be a very early 70's cruiser. Poss 71 or 72.
And if its original the engine would be a F155 (bout 3.9 litre), with a three speed box.

Bunderas have 2.4 not 2.8! 22R petrol (RJ70), and a 2.4 turbo diesel (LJ70). The articulation on bundies are very average, if u want it to be good off road... give it bigger tires and lockers!
