I replaced a couple of mine with 0.75mm squared wire, it's roughly the same diameter as the conductors inside the old fusible links.

I thought fusable link wire was colour coded? might be wrong though

Fusible links are designed to overheat and melt. Copper wire of the same diameter won't overheat and melt in the same way - so this is not a good idea.

It was all I had at the time and yes, it is a bit too beefy, but I've made sure the rest of the circuit is ok, I will put smaller wire there when opportunity permits.

yes fuseable link wire is color coded but when it melts you can't tell what color.
am going to replace them whit breakers of the same rating just can't find out what the rating is.
