Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I am currently rinning a 60 series pitman arm on my SASed 4 Runner.

It is slightly too long so the tie rod end tickles the coil spring.

Is there a slightly shorter pitman arm I can use, the 60 series unit is approximately 170mm betwwen spline and rod end hole centres.

It needs to fit the Toyota IFS steering box spline and the 60 series rod end as well as have the same drop as the 60 series unit.

About 150mm between centres apparently..

A FJ80 end has the same thread for the relay rod.

I am waiting on a call back from them to confirm dimensions.

They said it will fit the IFS box, and are checking if it will fit the 60 series taper pin.

I was told the flat arm is ~150mm between centres, so I'd imagin the dropped one would be the same..

I use a 2wd pitman arm which is alot shorter.
Fits 80 series TRE.

Just ordered the locktup unit,

150mm centres and 50mm drop, fits IFS box and 60/80 series tapered pins, it will solve my problem nicely.

It has standard 60 series steering, and I need to work in a better front panhard before altering too much more.

It crossed my mind to investigate it, since the pitman arm comes with the hi steer kit.
But I have other things that need to have $900 spent on them first.

75 series is slightly shorter than 60 and less drop

My 70 series arms are all the same centre to centre as all my 60 series arms. The drop is less.

Later model 2wd ones are the way to go. Plenty of them around and cheap.

you are not using the 60 series tre end which also has the steering dampener to connect to it at your pitman arm end

Swapping an 80 series rod end and a 70 series relay rod should get him close to where he needs to be? I don't see a damper in the pictures I looked at in the build thread..

If not, an 80 series rod end and a relay rod made from a shortened Hilux tie rod will work.. Cut the right hand thread end off, shorten it to the required length and tap a new right hand thread.. Small modifications considering everything else thats been done to it..

I was told by Locktup that it will accept a standard 60 series tie rod end pin.

Are the 60 series pins different to the 80 series, locktup says they are the same.

You have me worried now, I thought I had this little problem solved.


At any rate as stated they will be small mods to get an 80 series end on the relay rod, or to assemble a suitable relay rod set.

I will just have to check the tapers first.

the pin in the 60 pitman arm is not the same taper as 60/80/lux steering arms

tried it originally with my coil sas swaps, as I use locktup's flat pitman arm

I didn't doubt you Bubs, but I had my fingers crossed all the time.

It looks like it will fit the 60 series steering rod taper.

Will find out tomorrow.

Nup, she no fit

What are my options now, is there a Hi Lux joint that will screw into the steering arm and fit the pitman arm taper?

Should I simply get a machine shop to modify the taper in the Loktup pitman arm since it has heaps of meat in it?

Maybe go in to repco and try a few different TRE and see if you can match one?
Why can't you use the 60 series one for the pitman arm?

The 60 series joint has a larger taper than the new pitman arm.

I use a drivers side hilux one, how ever it is shorter you will need to make a new drag link, there is no other option.
