Looking at doing an engine conversion.

Quick Rundown..

My Gq wagon runs the TB42e
6-7 inch lift,
35" Mickey T's,
Front and Rear Locked,
Barwork winch etc.

In the near future im going to get it cut down into a king cab, with a bobbed style side.

At this stage i daily drive the gq, and just have plays on the weekend ranging from sand to rocks and mud.

I want to set the truck up for winch style events, in the long term.

Im currently tossing up between..

*350 ci
*460 ci
*TB45 + turbo

Whatever i choose i will buy the engine and build it over time then put it in once all finished so i dont have to take my truck of the road for more than a week or so. (in theory ahah)

Also do you think a GQ manual will be strong enough or could be modded, for a reasonable price to take around 400-500hp.. thats what im chasing.

Cheers any help would b great..

GQ manual should be strong enough if it's from a 4.2 (petrol or diesel) They are stronger than the GU 3.0/4.2 & the 4.5 petrol.
I'd like a Chev LS1 & LS2 and they're a reasonable price, 5000-6000 for a brand new motor. Considering a new TD42 over $10,000.

They LS2 is the best option in my opinion!

They generally like water more than any other petrol i've seen
Generally the GQ 5SP has no dramas with crazy power levels.

I'm doing this conversion from tb42e and will be running the 5spd, head & cam package, fast intake manifold & throttle body. getting it ready to run boost
Direct clutch services brisbane will make a custom clutch.
I will be building my own headers, the headers will be going outside the rails mainly to keep the heat away from the transmission.

Stand alone wiring harness's is going for about $500.

But the chop is my first priority tho!
