My speedo and reverse lights kept blowing the fuse, it turned out to be the trailer plug.

According to a great auto elec I use - Dash problems - 99% of the time are caused by the trailer plug...
I have had this problem myself with a wire working loose from the plug.

thanks guys for your replies I was towing at the time it happened but i also have had lpg/rear wheel carrier fitted the week before i am taken it back to the dealer in question .Ive replace the fuse in question but now every time i turn the lights the dash lights and instruments go out .and when the ignition is off turn on lights and the low fuel lights comes as well :twisted:does this sound like an earth problem or a stuffed dash cluster

a have seen weird probs in 100 series after blown tailight fuse. one we had locked the doors when the lights were turned off.
What had happened is the short melted the tailight wire from the dash back to the trailer plug, which in turn shorted to other wires in the harness, in this case door locks.
Something like that may be possible, especially the low fuel light coming on?
I would get access to the wiring loom through the jack compartment on lh rear, open it up and see if you can see a burnt wire. If there is pull out the harness and follow as far as the burnt wire goes. Will be a big job.

Have had no success yet , the car has been been back to Toyota twice now they cant find the problem its due to go back again Thurs.I am wondering if there was a short in the tail light fuse which is next to the ecu fuse could this cause a short. ????

I'de go over the LPG install really carefully as well. A well know LPG installer with a good name put my system in and one of the brackets chaffed through the ABS wiring and shorted out the ABS solenoids. The first thing I knew about it was a total brake failure coming into a cross road!!!!
Toyota couldn't find the short ! The installer spent a few days with it and tracked it down and fixed it all under warranty.
